Vietnam, though often synonymous with war, has reemerged as an exotic Southeast Asia paradise with miles of shimmering coastlines, intriguing traditions from an ancient culture and green rice patties that stretch for days. From its capital city Hanoi in the north down to Saigon, now known as Ho Chi Minh City, take the time to explore Vietnam and you will not be disspointed.
Vietnam is a captivating country with an inspiring tropical landscape and locals who greet you with open smiles. It's the perfect luxury vacation spot for sun-worshippers, culture and history buffs, boat lovers and foodies alike. Whether you start in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, top to bottom Vietnam is full of fantastic sites for all travelers. Hanoi, Vietnam's capital, is a remarkable blend of Vietnamese culture and past colonial influence from China and France. Cyclos taxis and motorbikes whiz by ancient pagodas, luxury hotels, sprawling museums, temples and the gorgeous Hanoi parks. Hanoi's Old Quarter centers around the Hoan Kiem Lake, a perfect spot for people watching and soaking in Vietnamese customs. Moving east of Hanoi and you'll encounter the Bay of Descending Dragons, or Ha Long, an incredible scenic bay with thousands of rock formations rising dramatically out of the water.
You cannot visit Vietnam without exploring its extensive coastline. Vietnam hugs the curves of the turquoise sea, creating spectacular beaches up and down the coast. Luxury beach resorts and private villas are sprinkled across the sandy beaches from China Beach in the north down to Mui Ne in Phan Thiet. Mui Ne, often considered Vietnam's Hawaii, is surfer's paradise with azure waves crashing onto powdery shores. Coconut trees frame golden beaches and private villas offer gorgeous views of secluded coves. Other hot beach spots include Nha Trang, Cua Dai and Vietnam's hidden gem, Phu Quoc Island off the coast of Cambodia.
When travelling to Vietnam, always plan your itinerary keeping the tropical climate in mind. Vietnam experiences monsoons during its rainy season that affect climate changes dramatically from the northern regions to the southern coasts.
