The western corner of Madeira is the least developed part of the island, as it is only the recent improvements to the local road network that have made the area easily accessible. Vinhas Vilas enjoys a stunningly beautiful and utterly peaceful setting on a slope high above the ocean, surrounded by the seemingly endless vineyards from which the property takes its name. Carefully restored to sacrifice none of its original rustic charm, the delightful interiors of these rambling cottages feature floors of flagstone or polished wood, pristine beamed wooden ceilings and Portuguese azulejo (hand-painted blue and white) tiles.
