The Mugello Valley is undoubtedly Tuscany's best kept secret. Hidden away in the hills north of Florence, this region is host to glorious natural landscapes and charming ancient towns. The Medici family frequented this area over the centuries, making visits to their various properties spread across the tranquil region, which were cooler than their urban abodes during the hot summers. Some of these stately homes are open to visitors, along with a selection of museums, medieval and Renaissance churches.
Villa Mugello is a large property situated over the valley and offering lovely views from its immaculate park (250 hectares) and traditional Italian style gardens. Amidst ancient trees, a spacious swimming pool is the ideal spot for relaxing in utter privacy and tranquillity. Frescoes adorn the walls in the villa's ground floor reception rooms, whilst a grand stone stairwell leads to the upstairs rooms. The tenor of the 15th Century is conveyed by the architecture of this aristocratic country home and reflected by its interior décor.
