As soon as you drive through the gate, you find yourself in a tropical sanctuary – Villa Champagne (renovated in 2009) is one of very rare “private” villas on the South coast of the island. Designed by a leading architect, the elegant beach house, with its hand-cut basalt stones recuperated from an ancient colonial home, is a show case of modern architecture allied to traditional materials. Discreetly luxurious, she is nestled in a beautiful tropical fenced garden of swaying palms and mature tropical trees stretching down to the magnificent beach of fine sand of Riambel which extends for kilometres on this preserved semi-wild coast.
The lagoon is shallow and excellently suited to snorkeling. It is to be noted that 300m from the villa, a pass through the coral reef opens on to deep sea.
