Built by Bill and Babe Paley in the early 1960's as a family retreat, Tranquil Seas was one of the first estates to be completed in the exclusive Lyford Cay enclave near Nassau, Bahamas. An eight bedroom, fully staffed oceanfront villa, the estate has hosted the Paley family and their guests over the past four decades. Designed to meet the exacting specifications and needs of its renowned owners, the house is decorated and filled with European and Asian furniture, art and antiquities. The estate is truly a one-of-a-kind environment. Tranquil Seas has been meticulously maintained and restored to its original period style, and is now available for short term rental use.

A private, gated community, Lyford Cay is an exclusive club with its own security service that caters to a diverse cross-section of prominent social and business leaders from around the world. Encompassing an 18-hole golf course, championship tennis facility, marina, and several world-class restaurants, the Club also has guestrooms and meeting facilities available for its members.

Tranquil Seas is situated on 7.5 lush acres facing the Caribbean Ocean. A private drive leads to the palm-shaded conservatory entrance, where the exquisite architecture of this unique beachfront retreat becomes apparent. The calm, white sand beach and secluded waters of Lightbourne Creek surround the estate on two sides. Dense tropical foliage, towering palms and manicured gardens further the sense of complete privacy, although the property is located just 15 minutes from Nassau International Airport.

Designed as a luxury tropical retreat by the Paleys, the inner garden pool courtyard features the loggia - a covered outdoor seating area with bamboo and Polynesian furnishings. Through a wall of elegant French doors, the grand living room opens to tropical breezes and is filled with art collected by the Paleys throughout their world travels. It is the perfect setting for both formal dinners and casual cocktail parties. Another favorite gathering spot is the covered veranda overlooking the tranquil waters of the Caribbean.

Flexible sleeping accommodations can fit groups of up to 10 individuals*. Four spacious master bedroom suites, each decorated in a unique architectural style, featuring queen-sized beds, writing desks and ample closet space, are augmented by two smaller single sleeping rooms, each with its own private bath.

A highlight of your stay at Tranquil Seas will be the enjoyment of a host of exquisite menu selections. Every meal is prepared on-site by the executive chef, and can be served to you and your group in a variety of formal or informal settings.

With a love of food and fine cuisine, the Paleys created many specialty dishes for the elegant parties and social gatherings they hosted here. These specialties continue to be part of the culinary tradition at the estate.

With a white sand beach perfect for swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing, and other activities including windsurfing, fishing and sailing, Lightbourne House caters to the active or the more relaxed traveler. If you prefer deep-sea fishing, water-skiing, scuba diving or a picnic day trip, the staff can make arrangements for all types of land and sea excursions.

Available to guests by special arrangement, the nearby Lyford Cay Club offers a host of activities ranging from fishing excursions and golf outings to tennis and croquet.
