Activities / What to do there?
- The Pays Basque region has a lot to offer, and St Jean de Luz a short drive south would be an excellent place to start exploring.
- Not far from St Jean is La Rhune mountain: you can take the little train to the top and enjoy panoramic views across the region from the 3,000ft summit, before returning either by train or on foot (allow 2-3 hours if walking down!).
- And if you feel like popping over the border for a taste of another country during your stay, why not? Spain is only 45 minutes away: you could visit attractive San Sebastian, or even Bilbao and its Guggenheim museum. Either would make a great day trip and add a little extra something to your Biarritz beach holiday.
- Local cuisine focuses on the use of high quality, seasonal ingredients: the coastal area provides plenty of fish and seafood, while fresh and cured meats, vegetables and legumes are produced inland. Local drinks include Basque cider and also Izarra, sweet liqueurs based on the flavours of peppermint and almonds.
