Il Fortino is a lovely villa situated in the heart of Tuscany, in the Chianti area between the provinces of Florence and Siena. The Villa is located in a valley rich in history near Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra and many other Medieval and Renaissance cities and towns. A holiday at Il Fortino offers you the marvelous experience of living in the heart of Tuscany. The swimming pool at the Villa allows you to enjoy the Tuscan sun surrounded by the vineyards which produce the prestigious Chianti wine. Famous all over the world for the production of it excellent wine, the Chianti territory is a hilly area situated in the centre of Tuscany: a succession of medieval hamlets, castles, churches, abbeys, monasteries, manor houses and villas come one after the other in fantastic itineraries which exalt the industriousness and creativity of man. A unique emotion, close to splendid Golf courses and Tennis courts, in the historical hamlet of Palazzuolo, surrounded by a park with olive trees, roses and Mediterranean herbs.
The Villa is an ancient manor house owned by the Sernigi Family who were rich merchants and patrons of art for important painters in the fifteenth century. The property was purchased at the end of the 1950s by the Corti Family who subsequently restored the Villa to its past splendour, maintaining its architectural style and enhancing the natural harmony which bonds this structure to the Tuscan landscape. Il Fortino is composed of six finely furnished bedrooms, from the windows it is possible to admire the picturesque Tuscan landscape, made up of green hills dotted with olive trees, thriving vineyards and centuries-old cypress trees. The bright, relaxing rooms can accommodate up to 11/12 persons. Each bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom. All the bathrooms have been completely restored and have large showers. The furnishings have been carefully studied in order to provide a comfortable and relaxing environment which is in harmony with the entire structure of the Villa. The furnishing of the rooms blends antique style wrought-iron beds with the comfort of orthopedic mattresses and wooden-slat bases.

Single bedroom: on the top floor, single bed (an extra single bed can be added), view of the garden and the area in front of the Villa, bathroom with shower. Ground floor bedroom: 2 beds/double bed, bathroom with bath/shower. On requet is avalable an annex with one twin bedroom with bathroom.
The villa has two large and bright living rooms on the upper floor where you can spend pleasant moments of total relaxation, surrounded by the tranquility of the landscape and illuminated by the warm rays of the sun. The living rooms are furnished with comfortable sofas and armchairs and through the enormous arched windows you can glimpse the access road to the Villa with its tall cypress trees. In one of the living rooms there is a magnificent stone fire-place bearing the Sernigi Family crest. The floors are all in old hand-made terracotta. All the arches and openings of the Villa belong to the original structure of the house. The living rooms in the Villa have satellite TV, a DVD and CD player which the guests are welcome to use during their stay.
Dining Room and Kitchen.
The large dining room in the Villa is the ideal place for enjoying the typical dishes of the region in the company of friends. There is, in fact, a 3-metre table which can be extended out to 4.5 metres (for 12-20 persons) which is perfect for your lunches or dinners, but also for an afternoon snack. The furnishing of the dining room conserves an antique style characterized by various sideboards and antique wooden cupboards. In the summer period you can comfortably eat outside the Villa – in fact, you can use the large gazebo in the courtyard which has an enormous table for 20 persons. Upon request, it is also possible to organize dinners in the spacious garden. Finally, the large kitchen is extremely well accessorized with professional stoves, an industrial dishwasher, double refrigerator and a marble-topped table.
The Villa offers its guests a large open-air swimming pool area, the ideal place in which to enjoy the Tuscan sun. You can, therefore, add enjoyment to your vacation in the Chianti around our pool, which is equipped with comfortable sun-beds, and relax under the shade of the olive trees. On the lawn right next to the pool is a splendid gazebo covered in vines, with chairs and a table which offers refreshing shade during the hottest hours of the day. There is also a changing cabin with a fridge in which to keep drinks cool, and an outside shower. The pool area is surrounded by rambling roses guaranteeing privacy, an olive grove and 2 hectares of lawn and yellow-flowering broom. The pool is 15 m. x 7 m. and goes from 1.20 m. to 1.40 m. in depth.
Il Fortino, has a large garden with lawns, rose gardens and olive trees and there are armchairs and a table on the side looking towards the pool. In the old stone courtyard of the Villa, surrounded by laurel bushes on the kitchen/entrance side of the Villa you will find comfortable armchairs and a 4-metre table under a gazebo covered by fox-grape vines for outdoor dining. At the further end of the garden there is a copse of trees with a large marble-topped table, lighting and a small kitchen where you can prepare meals and relax in the shade on the hammocks. There is large variety of roses, including old-fashioned English types, which guests are welcome to pick and take into the Villa in order to enjoy their scents and colours.
The Villa is surrounded by 10 hectares of vineyards, olive trees and woods. Our red wine – Chianti DOCG – is produced using selected hand-picked San Giovese grapes which undergo a lengthy maceration. Our extra virgin olive oil has won many prizes for quality. If you happen to be here in the grape-picking season between September and October you can help with the harvesting and fermenting of the grapes and taste the vin novello. October/November, instead, is the olive-picking season and our guests can watch the olives being pressed and taste the new oil.Within the Villa is the Estate cellar where the barrels with our own red wine and the bottles of our olive oil are kept. Guests at the Villa are welcome to try our production of wine and oil. Enzo, an expert in wine and oil, can advise you and guide you in degustation sessions in the cellar.
