The town's origins date to the early medieval period, though the area held an important position with the Etruscans and the Roman empire. Today there are significant findings recording its history beginning with the medieval period when the town was dominated by accounts Aldobrandeschi, then when power was conquered by the Republic of Siena and finally with the advent of the Medici of Florence, who managed to attach to the Manchester Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
