The largest municipality of the island covering the whole Southern corner from the airport all the way round to San Antonio. The actual village of San Jose sits halfway up the side of the island's tallest mountain, Sa Talaia (475 metres high). It is dominated by its fortress church which dates back to the 15th Century, but took 300 years to complete. It would appear that the local construction industry have speeded up somewhat over the years, but San Jose seems to have been largely overlooked as the capital of the largest municipality of the island.
