An enchanting palm oasis set against the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas Mountains, Marrakesh is Morocco's second oldest imperial city and retains its historical charm. We'll see the ancient Bahia Palace from the days of the harem, the royal Saadian Tombs and the Koutoubia Mosque and Minaret and Djamaa El Fna Square where Berber acrobats, fortune tellers, storytellers and mischievous monkeys perform.

Day 3 The Medina and the Magical Garden

After breakfast you visit the old medina built in the 9th century and home to the souks or bazaars where bargains abound. Your guide will explain the various areas of the souk and you will have some time for shopping. After lunch you will board a private horse drawn carriage (called a caleche) and, along with your guide, visit Menara Park and Majorelle Garden which was created by Jacque Majorelle a French artist who made Marrakesh his home. After his death it was neglected until it was purchased by Yves Saint Laurent and restored to its historic beauty. This evening you will have dinner at one of Marrakesh's best restaurants.

Day 4 Marrakesh to Fez by Private Plane

After breakfast at your hotel, your guide will meet you and take you to the airport where a plane has been chartered to fly you and your guide to Fez. Your guide and pilot will point out places of scenic interest along the way. You land in Fez and your driver is waiting to take you to lunch. After lunch you have the chance to see some of the highlights of the city. Fez is the spiritual, cultural and religious center of kingdom. Your sightseeing includes the medieval Medina, the University, the Karaouine Mosque with its roof of emerald green tiles, and the magnificent Nejjarine Fountain. You will then be taken to your deluxe hotel where you have a chance to relax and freshen up. This evening a special dinner at La Maison Bleu has been arranged.

Day 5 Moulay Idriss, Meknes and Volubilis

Following breakfast at your hotel you will depart for the Holy City of Moulay Idriss where the founder of Islam in Morocco is buried. You will then visit the Imperial City of Meknes with its 25 miles of walls surrounding the city; it is sometimes referred to as the "Versailles of Morocco". Much of it was built by Moulay Ismail who used 25,000 captives as laborers to construct this monumental city including a stable capable of boarding 12,000 horses. You will have lunch in Meknes before continuing on to visit the Roman Ruins of Volubilis. This town marked the end of the Roman Roads after the Romans conquered Gaul and Spain they were stopped by the Berbers from entering the Atlas Mountains You will have a privately guided tour of the ruins before continuing to Rabat.

Day 6 Rabat, Casablanca and Tunis

Nothing captures the sense of intrigue and adventure than Casablanca. First, however you will explore Rabat. This is not only the capital of the Country but is also rated as "the best" Moroccan city by many travelers. Far smaller than Casablanca and not as culturally diverse as Marrakesh, Rabat is none the less a hit with travelers because of its blend of old and new. You will pass through the Amohad gate to the Kasbah des Oudaias, situated on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic. Inside the gates you will discover artisan galleries, an ornate 17th Century palace now part of Museum of Moroccan Arts and the magnificent Andalusian Gardens near the Tour Hassan, a 12th century Minaret intended to be the highest and largest in the Muslim world. You then head to Casablanca stopping for lunch at a seafood restaurant overlooking the sea. After lunch you head to the airport for the late afternoon flight to Tunis. Upon arrival you are met by your driver and taken to our boutique hotel located in the village of Sidi Bou Said and overlooking Carthage and the Gulf of Tunis. Time for a welcome drink in the bar before calling it a night.

Day 7 Carthage and Tunis

You start the day with breakfast, and then your guide is waiting to take you to Carthage. Carthage was founded by the Phoenicians in 814 BC and you will see some of these early settlements on Byrsa Hill. After Hannibal's failed invasion of Rome the old Carthage was destroyed by the Romans in 146 BC and a new Roman town built on top which became the city through which Rome controlled Africa. Recent excavations have uncovered some of the original homes and also two areas of the famous port from which Carthage ruled the Mediterranean. You then continue on to the city of Tunis where you have lunch in the charming Medina and then a guided tour of the Bardo Museum which is housed in the bey of Tunis' former palace. Famous for its Roman mosaics taken from archaeological sites all over the country, it is widely considered to be one of the best collections in the world. You finish up the day strolling through the village of Sidi Bou Said before enjoying dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 8 Artistic Hammamet and Scenic Sousse

After a leisurely breakfast our driver is ready to take us on a scenic trip south along the coast. Our first stop is Hammamet. Originally known for its large number of hammams (traditional Moorish bathhouses) Hammamet has grown into one of Tunisia's most popular tourist and artists' centers. Hammamet has attracted many artists over the years including Paul Klee, Andre Gide and Frank Lloyd Wright amongst others. Today many modern artists call Hammamet home. Before lunch we have the chance to wander the nearby Medina. We then head further south to the resort area of Sousse and our five star hotel on the beach. You have time for an evening swim in the sea or the pool before enjoying dinner.

Day 9 “The City of 50 Mosques”

This morning you head out for Kairouan "the city of 50 mosques". Kairouan is Tunisia's holiest city and the 4th holiest Islamic city in the world after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. It is here that Islam gained its first foothold in North Africa. Although legend indicates otherwise, Kairouan was most likely founded on the site of an earlier Roman settlement. You will spend some time at the great mosque, built in the 9th Century and in the Medina where world famous Kairouan carpets of pure wool are woven and sold. After lunch at La Kasbah you return to your hotel where you are free to lie by the pool or on the beach until you head out to one of Sousse's famous seafront fish restaurants.

Day 10 The Roman Legacy at El Jem

After breakfast your driver is ready to take you to El Jem one of the most visited towns because of its Roman Amphitheatre. This monumental edifice was built between 230 and 240 AD and is the largest Roman monument left in Africa. It ranks number three in the former Empire after Rome and Verona. Since it was one of the last large amphitheatres built, its architectural design is an improvement over that of the Coliseum in Rome. After a detailed visit to the Coliseum you return to Sousse for lunch and the chance to relax on the beach. This evening we will head to the El Kantaoui marina where you can walk the cobblestone streets before enjoying your farewell meal overlooking the yachts

Day 11 Cairo and the Egyptian Museum

Your driver will pick you up for the trip to Tunis airport and your flight to the Cairo. Upon arrival in Cairo you are met by your guide and taken to the Egyptian Museum for an introduction to Pharonic Cairo. This is one of the world's most famous museums. The magnificent collection of antiques includes mummies, Sarcophagi and the highlight of it all... the fabulous treasure from Tutankhamen's tomb. After lunch at a local restaurant you will see the Islamic side of Cairo with a visit to the Mohammed Mosque and the Citadel of Salah Al-Din. Built between 1176 and 1182 AD, the citadel provides a panoramic view of Cairo from the Moqattam Hills. This evening you enjoy dinner overlooking the Pyramids from your deluxe hotel

Day 12 Abu Simbel and Aswan

You have an early morning departure from the hotel to the airport for the short flight to Abu Simbel. When the Aswan High Dam was planned to protect the Nile Delta from devastating flooding it was realized that the flooding it would create would destroy the two temples that were at the heart of Nubian culture. Thanks to UNESCO and nation donors, the temples were moved to higher ground and preserved for future visitors like you. The larger temple was erected by Ramses II. The façade is 90 feet high and 120 feet wide and guarded by four statues of Ramses, each of which is 60 feet high. North of this temple is the smaller (but still impressive) built by Ramses to honor his wife Nefertari. After exploring the temple you will return to the airport for the brief flight to Aswan. You will board your luxury Nile cruise ship in time for lunch. Afterwards you have the opportunity to sail in a native felucca (sailboat) and sail past Lord Kitchener's Garden and the Aga Khan mausoleum.

Day 13 Kom Ombo, Philae and Edfu

This morning you will leave the ship to visit Aswan High Dam one of the largest in the world. The dam is 10,000 feet long and 120 feet wide at its top. You will than continue by motorboat to the beautiful island of Philae to view the Temple of Isis. Returning to the ship and lunch, you set sail for Kom Ombo and its temple. Dating back to the Ptolemies, it is built on a high dune overlooking the Nile. It was dedicated to Horus the sun God and Sobek the crocodile god. You arrive in Edfu where we dock for the evening.

Day 14 Edfu and Luxor

This morning you will visit the Temple of Edfu. Built during the Ptolemaic period, this huge and exquisite edifice is devoted to Horus the Sun God. Part of the experience is to travel to the temple by horse-drawn carriage. Returning to the ship you enjoy a leisurely cruise down the Nile before arriving in Luxor, formerly known as Thebes.

Day 15 Luxor and the Temple of Karnak

Luxor is divided by the Nile. You will start your exploration on the west side of the Nile where you will visit The Colossi of Memnon, two statues, 60 feet high, the only remains of a temple commemorating Amenhotep III. You will then visit the Tombs of the Valleys of the Kings and Queens carved into the rock face to safeguard them against grave robbers (unsuccessfully) they include the tombs of Nefertari, wife of Ramses II, Seti I, Ramses III and Amenhotep II. After lunch you visit the East bank to explore the Temple of Luxor built by Amenhotep III and Ramses II. You conclude your Luxor excursion with a visit to the Temple of Karnak world famous for its history and architecture. This evening you enjoy the spectacular sound and light show at the Temple of Karnak.

Day 16 Luxor to Cairo

This morning you will disembark your Nile cruise ship and are transferred to the airport for the short flight to Cairo. After your arrival in Cairo your guide will meet you to take you to our hotel. The afternoon is free for last minute shopping. This evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at your hotel.

Day 17 Return to the USA

After breakfast, your driver will pick you up one last time for your trip to the airport and your return flight to the US. You arrive back the same day.
