Day 1 Depart USA

Your adventure begins as you depart the USA bound for South Africa and arrive in Cape Town the following evening.

Day 2 Arrival in Cape Town

Upon your evening arrival in Cape Town you will be met by your guide and personally escorted to your hotel which is located on the Atlantic Coast and is considered by many to be the best hotel in Cape Town With only 11 bedrooms the property offers superb service and the rolling lawns down to the sea are stunning. After checking in you head for your room to get rested for the adventure ahead.

Day 3 Exploring the Cape Peninsula

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up for a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula. Before you leave, the chef will consult with you to determine your preferences for dinner and will then match your requests with the best produce in the markets that day. You head south and following the Atlantic coastline you visit the seaside towns of Hout Bay and Camps Bay. After lunch you traverse Chapman Peak Drive and Table Mountain National Park before ending up at the Boulders Penguin colony. This evening you enjoy your custom dinner at the hotel.

Day 4 The Vineyards and Vintages of Franschhoek

After breakfast your driver will take you south to the town of Franschhoek which was originally settled by French Huguenots who came to escape religious persecution and were invited by the Governor to assist in the development of the wine industry. Since it is less than ten miles, you have time to stop along the way for some tastings and some inside tips from the winemakers. The town is considered to be one of the most picturesque in South Africa with art galleries, boutiques and restaurants. In the early evening you reach your hotel which is, itself a vineyard with over 30 acres under vine with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Day 5 The French Touch in Winemaking

You have the full day to try out some of the top vintages in and around Franschhoek. Today's tasting expedition will be highlighted by a leisurely and appetizing lunch at La Petite Ferme, itself a boutique winery but noted for its magnificent views of the vineyards and the valley below and a luncheon menu to match the view.

Day 6 Maun, Chobe and Savute Elephant Camp

A morning flight via Johannesburg, takes you to Maun in Botswana where you connect with your aircraft to fly into Chobe National park and your lodge, Savute Elephant Camp. . You arrive in plenty of time for an afternoon game drive before enjoying an al fresco dinner overlooking a waterhole with many nocturnal visitors.

Day 7 The Elephants and Lions of Chobe

Savute lies in the heart of Chobe National Park and is an ideal area for viewing high concentrations of elephant and lions. Prides of forty plus lions are not uncommon as are sightings of all the other major predators including the endangered wild dog, leopard, cheetah and hyena. Game viewings in open vehicles will be offered this morning and this afternoon but, in many cases, the animals come to you when drinking at the waterhole.

Day 8 Chobe, Moremi Wildlife Reserve and the Khwai River Lodge

After a morning game drive you head for the airstrip where our aircraft will take you on the short flight to the Moremi Game Reserve bordering the Okavango Delta. While Savute is a lesson in aridity, rain is rare and water is precious, your next two camps celebrate water and lush vegetation. You land at the camp in time for lunch and some midday relaxation perhaps by the pool or a massage and body wrap? In the evening you take your first game drive in the reserve before enjoying sundowners and a dinner by candlelight.

Day 9 A Day on the Khwai River Floodplains

You begin your day with a 5AM cup of coffee or tea before setting out for a morning game drive and to watch the sun rise. Khwai is an area renowned for its large concentration of big mammals, especially buffalo, hippo and elephant. You can sense the big game heritage from the moment you arrive and it is not unusual to see many types of wildlife from your own private deck. This evening you will take a walking tour to get a greater feel for the bushveld.

Day 10 Khwai River, Okavango Delta and Eagle Island Camp

Millions of years ago, rain would fall on the mountains in what is now called Angola creating a river that would flow through what is now Namibia into present day Botswana where it would flow into a large lake. The earth's crust shifted and blocked the flow of water to the lake which dried up and became the Makgadikgadi pans. Each year as the rains fall in Angola they flow into what is now called the Okavango Delta one of the world's largest inland water systems. A brief flight from Khwai brings you to Eagle Island, one of the Delta's most pristine natural locations, a region of myriad waterways, palm-lined islands and vast floodplains.

Day 11 Exploring the Okavango Delta

The Delta is home to a wide variety of big game including elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippo, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog. Today, depending on the season, you have the opportunity to view the game either in open-sided vehicles or on the water in Mokoros which are dug-out canoes "poled" by your guide and allowing close up views of elephant and hippos at play.

Day 12 Okavango Delta to Pretoria

You have time for an early morning game viewing and breakfast before heading to the airport for the flight to Johannesburg. When you arrive in Johannesburg you meet your driver for a sightseeing tour of Pretoria, the country's capital, before checking into the Illyria House. Your farewell dinner, complete with candleight and wine is at the hotel this evening

Day 13 Return to the USA

After  breakfast you are driven to the airport for a flight to Johannesburg where you board  your flight to the US.

Day 14 Arrive in the USA

You arrive back in the USA in the afternoon.
