Upon arrival in Singapore we are met by our driver and taken in style to our hotel. Raffles is more than a hotel, it is a symbol of the city and sets a standard by which other hotels are judged. We have a light dinner before catching up on our sleep and getting ready for the events ahead
Day 4 Singapore sights and shopping
Today's excursion allows us to experience the many cultural faces of Singapore. We will visit Chinatown which is more substantial than many other cities since the Chinese represent over 60% of the population. We also visit other areas including Little India base of another influential group. Like America, Singapore is a melting pot and it works. After lunch in IndiaTown, our driver will drop us off in Orchard Road to explore the many shopping opportunities Singapore has to offer. This evening we have dinner at Palm Beach one of Singapore's best seafood restaurants.
Day 5 Malacca Excursion
An early morning departure as we move from Singapore to Peninsular Malaysia. After brief formalities we enter Johore Bahru, the southernmost city in Malaysia. En route to Malacca we pass lush rubber and oil palm plantations. After lunch we will tour the historical city of Malacca which was once a Dutch colony. We will visit major attractions such as St. Paul's Hill, the renowned Porta De Santiago, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple and Jonkers street, also known as antique street before returning to Singapore
Day 6 Singapore harbor cruise and flight to Penang
After breakfast we will head to the pier for a cruise through Singapore harbor on a replicated imperial junk. In addition to viewing the skyline and one of the world's busiest ports, we will see many of the islands that surround Singapore. After lunch we will head to the airport for the flight to Penang where we are met by our driver and taken to our hotel. After we have had a chance to freshen up, our guide will take us to one of the island's best restaurants for dinner.
Day 7 Georgetown and the E & O
From its original founding in 1885 the Eastern & Oriental has been a favored resort of world luminaries including Noel Coward, Douglas Fairbanks, Rudyard Kipling and Somerset Maugham. Despite all its modern amenities, including a swimming pool overlooking the ocean, the hotel has a respect for heritage including a butler assigned to every room. We have reserved suites for our stay in the hotel and our visit to Penang. Today's morning tour will give us an overview of the island from historic Georgetown, its capital, to the surrounding countryside. Tonight we enjoy the nightlife of Georgetown including a trishaw ride.
Day 8 Penang to Bangkok
After breakfast we will be transferred to the airport for our flight to Bangkok. Upon arrival, we will be met and transferred by private car to our deluxe hotel considered to be one of the country's best. For almost 130 years, royalty, dignitaries and distinguished travelers have all followed the legendary Chao Phraya River through the heart of Bangkok to the doors of one of the world's most luxurious hotels – The Oriental, Bangkok. Tonight we will enjoy a dinner cruise on the river.
Day 9 Temples, Buddhas and Classical Thai Dance
After Breakfast, our guide will meet us to escort us on a tour of the city with a particular emphasis on its unique temples (called Wats). After viewing modern Bangkok, a bustling city built around the Chao Phraya River, we will spend some time visiting Wat Trimitr also known as the temple of the Golden Buddha, Wat Po, the temple of the reclining Buddha and Wat Benchamabopit, also known as the Marble Temple. After a free afternoon, we will be taken to a traditional Thai restaurant located in our hotel, where we will enjoy a variety of Thai food. After dinner we will experience first hand, the warm hospitality of the Thai people as expressed though a series of Thai dances.
Day 10 Thai Cooking and Rice Barge cruise
This morning we will meet up with our cooking instructor for our lesson in Thai cuisine. We will start by going to the local markets for the freshest ingredients then going to the kitchen where we prepare and eat a classical Thai meal. In the afternoon, our driver will pick us up and deliver us to the pier where we will board a longtail speedboat and begin our journey through the klongs (canals) of this "Venice of the East". Halfway through the trip we will transfer to a converted rice barge where we can relax with a refreshing tropical drink as we view the life along the klongs. Tonight we go out for a typical Thai meal
Day 11 Bangkok to Hong Kong
A leisurely breakfast precedes a trip to the airport for the flight to Hong Kong where we are transferred to The Peninsula in one of the hotel's Rolls Royces. The Peninsula has been a Hong Kong landmark for generations and the addition of a new tower has only added to its luster. Once we have freshened up, our guide will join us to take us to a scenic spot for a cocktail as the sun sets over the harbor. We will then go to Aberdeen for a Chinese banquet at the famous Jumbo floating restaurant.
Day 12 Hong Kong and Lamma Islands
This morning, our driver will be waiting to take us on a personalized tour of Victoria which is the name of the Island which many people think of as Hong Kong. We will take a ride up to Victoria Peak, stop at the fishing village of Aberdeen and have lunch at Repulse Bay before returning to the hotel. We have some free time for shopping this afternoon before our driver returns to take us to the ferry where we heads for a seafood dinner at the Sok Kwu Wan Fishing Village.
