Where better to start your Indonesian adventure than in the vibrant city of Yogyakarta on the island of Java. It is celebrated as the centre of classical Javanese fine art and culture such as traditional batik designs, gamelan music, and Wayang (shadow puppet) shows as well as an exciting underground art scene.
On arrival, you’ll be whisked away to your sublime retreat, The Amanjiwo, for three blissful nights. Surrounded by aromatic coffee plantations and engulfed by four mountains (one of which is technically a volcano) you’ll feel immersed in the beautiful natural surroundings. Visit the Borobudur temple nearby, go on energetic elephant rides, trek through the jungle or hike the mountains to explore the molten lava flows. Not to be missed.
Leaving your sanctuary behind, you’ll transfer to Ubud on the beautiful island of Bali.
You’ll be staying at the Uma Ubud, a beautiful property in the centre of the town, but which still retains the feel of a real retreat. Ubud is Bali’s cultural centre and here there are many beautiful places to eat and markets to explore. It is a real hub for artists and has a fantastic feel to the town. You can visit the paddy and rice fields, which are just spectacular, and take trips from here up the mountains. You can go elephant trekking, white water rafting, mountain biking… or relax in the spa.
Next you’ll transfer to Seminyak an area crammed full of vibrant, upmarket bars and restaurants with a more upbeat vibe. You’ll be staying at the Samaya Hotel, where you’ll have your own individual one bedroom villa. The property flawlessly melds the intimacy of staying in a private villa with the essential amenities of a hotel. Well appointed villas come with plunge pools, cosy four-poster beds, and huge bathrooms. You can pamper yourself with a choice of spa treatments as you listen to the crash of waves or melt away by the beautifully manicured pool.
There is an exceptional beach-front dining space and a charming sunset cocktail deck for you to enjoy a few of the local specialities. The service is second to none and a flotilla of cars will be ready to whisk you into town for shopping and al fresco dining. You’re ten minutes from the centre, close enough to the buzz and bright lights, but far enough away for you to feel like you are in a retreat a million miles away. You’ll also be perfectly located to fantastic diving sites, snorkeling, and the option of water sports and jet skiing if you feel like being a little more active.
