Explore the Maui upcountry as we make our way across the face of the majestic Haleakala. Learn about Maui's colorful history and rich culture, with a stop at Maui's only winery for a free tasting, it is sure to excite the senses.
Our journey begins as we pick you up from your resort, the airport, or even the cruise ship. We then take a direct route to 'Ulupalakua Ranch. A spectacularly scenic drive leads to the ranch, traversing pastures where cattle and horses graze and jacaranda bloom, with panoramic views of Maui’s southern coast with Lana'i, Molokini, and Kaho'olawe in the distance. Ulupalakua Ranch is home to Maui’s only Winery, Tedeschi Vineyards, where everyone is cordially invited to a complimentary wine tasting, Maui style. Follow your tasting with a visit to the Ulupalakua Ranch Store and Grill for a selection of cheese to accompany your wine or a hot burger made fresh from the beef raised in their own backyard. From here we head south to the 'Ahihi Kina'u lava fields, the site of Haleakala's last major eruption estimated around 1790. The more than 2,000 acre reserve includes several popular snorkeling/diving sites and many cultural and geologic sites as well as habitat for numerous rare and endangered species. We then continue north to beautiful upcountry town of Makawao. Makawao is a town with the rustic charm of the old western days and is famous for its paniolo, or Hawai'ian cowboy. As a locally renowned art community, Makawao is a great place for art lovers. This charming town was once named one of the top 25 arts destinations in the United States. The combination of its paniolo heritage and its lively artistic community make Makawao a unique stop as you tour through Maui. We then head to our final stop, Pa'ia on Maui's north coast. This hospitable community was once a booming plantation town during the heyday of Maui's sugar cane industry. Today Pa'ia is a town of colorful, rustic storefronts filled with local art galleries, one-of-a-kind shopping boutiques and restaurants. Pa'ia is also home to Ho'okipa Beach, the "windsurfing capital of the world." During the winter, the big north shore waves make Ho'okipa Beach a magnet for pro windsurfers and kite surfers. We then make our way back to your drop off location.
