Day 2 Bienvenue a Paris

Upon arrival in Paris you are met by your guide and driver as you take an orientation tour of Paris. Whether this is your first or fifteenth trip to Paris it is impossible not to be impressed as you see the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, L'arc de Triomphe or the Champs Elysees and know that you are truly in Paris. You will view many of these sites in detail later on but for now you absorb it all. After the tour, your guide takes you to your centrally-located hotel where you have the afternoon to relax or explore the neighborhood around your hotel. Dinner is at the hotel's superb restaurant this evening

Day 3 From the Champs-Elysees to the Eiffel Tower

After breakfast, your guide will meet you to take you on a walking tour of some of the most recognizable sights on the Right Bank. You will discover the major monuments of Paris between the 17th Century and the early part of the 20th Century. During your walk you will stroll the Champs Elysees, pass Les Invalides, the building containing the remains of Napoleon, and the Ecole Militaire where he studied to be an artillery officer. You then arrive at the Eiffel Tower where you take an elevator to the first level where a table has been reserved for lunch at Altitude 95. After lunch you have the afternoon free.Tonight, you dine from a selection of restaurants in various parts of the city through our Concierge dining offer and put together through collaboration with your hotel's concierge.

Day 4 Birth of a City, Revolution and a Celebration of Art

Today's excursion will start at Isle de la Cite, the island in the Seine thought to be the site of the original settlement in Paris. Your tour starts with the Conciergerie built in the 14th Century. During the French Revolution, nearly 3,000 prisoners, including Marie Antoinette, spent their last days here before heading to the Guillotine in Concorde Square. Nearby is Saint Chapelle, built by Louis IX to store the crown of thorns and a piece of the true cross. Despite damage during the revolution, over two thirds of the stained glass windows are original. You will tour the church and then adjourn for lunch at a nearby restaurant. After lunch you proceed to the Louvre where you spend the afternoon viewing some of the great works displayed here including The Wedding at Cana by Veronese, Coronation of Napoleon by David, the Venus de Milo and, of course the Mona Lisa by DaVinci.

Day 5 A Journey through the Latin Quarter

Today's exploration will take you through the heart of Roman and Medieval Paris. You start with a visit to Notre Dame Cathedral where your guide gives a detailed explanation of its architectural and religious significance. You then walk through the flower market on isle de la Cite before heading to the cobblestone streets of the left bank. You pass the ancient Roman Baths and the Mansion built by the Cluny Abbots before arriving at the Sorbonne, the prestigious university of Paris. You have lunch in the area around the university then the afternoon is free and your guide will give you directions as to the best areas for shopping. Tonight another opportunity to enjoy one of our Concierge dinners.

Day 6 A Fast Train to Strasbourg

After breakfast you will be taken to the station where you will board a TGV train for Strasbourg, the site of the European Parliament and the cultural capital of Alsace. Alsace lies between the Vosges Mountains and the Rhine River with Switzerland to the South, Germany to the North and east and the rest of France to the west. Given its location it is no wonder that it has a dual cultural attitude since it has, at various times been either German or French. The buildings and the cuisine may be more Germanic but the love of wines is all French. You arrive in Strasbourg where your guide will take you on a tour of the city including lunch overlooking one of the many river tributaries that flow through the city. After your visit you head south to the village of Rouffach which is near Colmar, Alsace's wine capital where your hotel is located.

Day 7 Villages and Mountains

Today you have a chance to explore some of the Alsace countryside. Your first stop will be the quaint village of Obernai where you have the chance to explore this typical Alsation village and try some of their wine. You continue to Mount Koenisbourg which you ascend in the car in order to tour Koenigsburg Castle. After the tour and lunch, you return to the Chateau where the rest of the afternoon is at leisure.

Day 8 Colmar, the fairy tale town

Locals say that exploring the area around Rouffach is not a journey to be rushed, but slowly savored as one would relish the finer qualities of the wines that come from this region. Colmar was home to Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi, who designed the Statue of Liberty and many examples of his architecture still stand today. It is the central part of the town which will claim our attention however, since it has been well-preserved since the middle ages and the ancient half-timbered houses and ornate wood sculptures are reflected in the rivers which pass through the city. The town is also famous for its wine cellars since this is the capital of the Alsatian wine industry. You will sample some of the various varietals before returning to the Chateau..

Day 9 Exploring and Tasting the Alsace Wine Route

Today you will take advantage of your hotel's proximity to the wine growing areas of Alsace. Your guide will be ready to take you on a leisurely tour of the Alsace wine route that meanders for 100 miles through picturesque vineyards and fairy tale villages of cobbled streets, timber framed houses and medieval church towers. As you drive along you will stop at the various wineries sampling their wines. You will also stop for lunch in a scenic area adding to the pleasure of the day. Tonight you enjoy a farewell dinner at the chateau. During the summer months you have the option of dining on the large terrace with panoramic views of the village, Alsace Valley and Black Forest; a suitable end to your Alsace experience.

Day 10 Return to USA

In the morning your driver will deliver you to the airport where you fly to Paris to connect with your flight to the US.
