Cairo has been the largest city in Africa for centuries. Modern Cairo encompasses many former cities and their monuments: the pyramids of the pharaohs, early Christian monasteries and churches; Salah al-Din's Citadel; mosques of the Mamluke and Ottoman sultans. Five thousand years of culture are concentrated here, at the center of three continents... and you are part of it.
Tonight a special welcome dinner accompanbied by VIP seats for the sound and light show at the pyramids.
Day 3 The Pyramids, Sphinx and Aswan
This morning, your personal Egyptologist will introduce you to some of the most well known sites in the world. Your first visit is the reason many people come to Egypt. You will stand face to face with The Sphinx, the "sacred symbol of the union of the strongest physical with the highest intellectual power on earth" and stand in awe of the Pyramids. One of the seven wonders of the ancient world, King Cheops' pyramid was built in 2650BC and as Amelia Edwards said in 1877 "it is impossible to get tired of the Pyramids" After lunch you head to the airport for a brief flight to Aswan. Upon arrival you are met by your guide and taken to your hotel which is a resort located on an Island in the Nile. Built in the 6th Century it was created as a fortress and guarded by knights and nestled deep in the Sinai mountain range. It comprises a number of churches and a magnificent library. It was built here because it was in this area that Moses saw the burning bush and from where he received the Ten Commandments. A spectacular climb to the top of Mount Sinai will allow us to retrace the steps of Moses. After lunch at a local restaurant you return to your resort for some relaxation.
