After touring you enjoy a delightful lunch at a hilltop restaurant serving excellent Indian cuisine. The afternoon is free to relax by one of the pools or enjoy the tranquil waters of the Arabian Gulf.

Day 5 The Batinah Coast, Nakhl Springs and the Mountains in Nizwa

This morning, your driver will pick you up at the hotel as you head into the interior of Oman. First you will stop at the fishing village of Seeb, which is also the name of the main airport but a picturesque and authentic fishing village where the fishermen draw up their boats and offer their fish direct from the boat. After wandering the market we head inland to the stunning oasis of Nakhl. One minute you will be driving though the rugged desert and the next you will be in a large oasis, filled with date palms and dominated by the Nakhl Fort which you will visit. After a visit to the fort we head to Wadi Bani Sauf which is sure to capture images of Indiana Jones. You approach a narrow gap in the mountains off the main road which reveals the entrance to the Wadi which runs into the mountains for over 16 miles. At its summit is a watchtower and, on the horizon the terraces of green where the locals grow limes, and bananas. Because of the high mountains around, the sun hits the Wadi three hours later and sets three hours sooner but it does provide the locals a respite from the heat. After a picnic lunch you continue to the village of Al Hamra famous for its date plantations and arrive at the town of Nizwa and our hotel. You have gone from rugged canyons to a marble lobby and you have a chance to wash off the dust before enjoying dinner at the hotel.

After breakfast you will head into Nizwa which was the capital of Oman in the 6th and 7th Centuries. The highlight of the city is the Round Tower Fort which was built in the 17th Century by Imam Sultan Bin Saif Al Ya'ribi. Surrounded by a palm oasis which stretches for five miles, it is famous for its bustling souk where you can buy exquisite copper and silver jewelry and the intricately hand-carved silver "Khanjars" or daggers used by Omani men as part of their ceremonial dress. Your next stop will be Jabrin considered to the finest example of Omani castles which, in the late 17th Century became a major center of learning. You will visit the castle and view the high quality of its ceiling painting and wood carvings. You proceed to Wadi Nakher another picturesque site where you enjoy a picnic lunch at the oasis. This is the deepest canyon in Oman and the scenery is stupendous. On the way out of the canyon you visit Misfah a pretty mountain village with ancient stone dwellings still being occupied. On the way back to Nizwa you stop to examine the terrace farming at Wadi Ghul before finishing the day with the spectacular views from Jebel Shams the highest peak of the Jebel Akhbar mountain range.

Day 7 From the High Desert to the Wide Ocean

This morning you head for the ocean and the Wahiba Sands, a vast mass of undulating red and white sand dunes rising up to 600 feet and hosting a wide variety of flora and fauna. You have the opportunity to visit a Bedouin house before entering Wadi Bani Khalid which presents a stark contrast with its well watered villages embedded in the mountains. You stop at a local hotel for lunch before returning to the coast and Ras Al Junayz a major turtle nesting site. After enjoying a barbeque dinner at our hotel you are driven to the beach to watch the turtles nesting on the sands.

Day 8 The Pristine Coast of Oman

After you have enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, your driver will be ready to take you to the town of Sur to visit a boat-building yard where the famous dhows are built much as they were five hundred years ago. You then drive to Tiwi village a picturesque haven with its lush green Wadi and plantations. After lunch we visit the Bimah Sinkhole before driving down the coast towards Muscat. Along the way we may see sharks in the deep blue water or, on land, fleet-footed gazelles sprinting across the landscape. We pass through Muscat in the afternoon and arrive at our deluxe resort surrounded by mountains and with its own private bay.

Day 9 Dolphin Watching off the Coast of Oman

Your driver will pick you up at the hotel and deliver you to the nearby marina where you will board a boat for a trip around the coast.
