Your Tour

Day One:

On arrival, a private town car and driver will be waiting to escort you to your Madison Avenue hotel - the Carlyle. This fine establishment is a prime example of Upper East Side luxury, style and service. From its intimate art deco foyer to the shimmering platinum mosaic walls of the spa, staying at the Carlyle will truly be an unforgettable experience.

The Carlyle became known as 'the New York White House' - President John F Kennedy owned an apartment on the 34th floor. In fact, it was here that Marilyn Monroe was sneaked in through the service entrance on East 77 Street after her famous singing 'Happy Birthday, Mr President' at Madison Square Garden.

Maybe before venturing outside to the splendour that is Madison Avenue, you could enjoy afternoon tea in the Gallery, a restaurant modelled after the Sultan's dining room at the Topkapi Palace in Turkey.

After exploring your local boutiques (Gucci, D&G, Ralph Lauren, Christian Louboutin and Prada to name a few) you can take your pick of world cuisines in the city that never sleeps. Head to New York's bohemian Greenwich Village for Middle Eastern flavours or try hot ribs in Harlem. Visit Chinatown for oriental fare or maybe treat yourself to American-French fusion in Chelsea.

Day Two:

After a hearty American breakfast in the Carlyle's restaurant (their lobster omelette is outstanding!), you will be chauffeur driven to Bloomingdales - home of the infamous Little Brown Bag! Grand Tourist will make your shopping experience like no other as we arrange for your very own personal shopper to spend time with you, offering fashion trend advice for you and your home.

After your exclusive shopping experience, you have the afternoon at leisure...Maybe you could treat yourself to a rejuvenating treatment at the Carlyle's spa: Sense? They offer an array of nurturing body therapies, aromatherapy massages and replenishing facials. Alternatively, take a break from the hustle and bustle of downtown New York in Central Park...row a boat, eat a hotdog, pass over streams, under arches and through the woods along a maze of pathways in this beautiful urban jewel.

This evening you could be entertained at the intimate and very swanky Cafe Carlyle. Cabaret doesn't get more elite than this...the club attracts rarefied talent such as Betty Buckley and Woody Allen.

Day Three:

For a spot of culture, observe world-class art at the Guggenheim, MoMa, the Metropolitan Museum of Art - the largest museum in the Western hemisphere or at the Frick Gallery (a few blocks from the Carlyle). Once the private mansion of Henry Clay Frick, this renowned and opulent museum displays a wonderful collection of master paintings, oriental rugs and fine European furniture. There are also various undiscovered boutique galleries just a few feet from the hotel.

If you are a fan of cognac and Scotch, then let Grand Tourist arrange a tasting at the upscale and very suave Brandy Library in Tribeca - the perfect way to whet your appetite before dinner.

Day Four:

Today you will enjoy a food tasting and culture walking tour though NYC's most delicious and historic neighbourhoods. During this 'off-the-beaten-path' glimpse at what life in New York City is truly like. You will get to visit a matzo factory and pickle shop, an old fashioned candy store, a Chinese dumpling shop, a cupcake shop and all sorts of lovely treats in Little Italy!

The rest of the day is at your leisure.

This evening a private car and driver will take you down 5th Avenue to the fabulous Peninsula Hotel where you will enjoy dinner at the splendid Fives restaurant. After dinner you ought to head to Salon de Ning, the Peninsula's dramatic roof top terrace for a cocktail or two!

Day Five:

You have the option to do as you please on the final day of your New York experience. Grand Tourist will arrange for a town car to take you (and your shopping!) to the airport for your return flight home.
