Day 1 Depart USA
You board your aircraft for the overnight flight to the "Paris of the South", Buenos Aires, home of the Tango, resting place of Evita, and capital of Argentina
Day 2 Welcome to Buenos Aires
Upon arrival you are met by your guide and escorted to your car which will take you to your hotel which is located in Palermo Soho one of the trendier areas of the city. With only 11 rooms, each individually furnished, you will find a unique combination of the old and contemporary. The rest of the day is yours to relax or stroll through the interesting neighborhood. In the evening your guide will meet you and take you to a local restaurant for dinner.
Day 3 The Magnificent Plazas and Intimate Neighborhoods of Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires is an elegant and cosmopolitan city with European flavor and a friendly atmosphere. You will get to see quite a bit of it today accompanied by your personal guide. You will start with the monumental highlights like the main square, Plaza de Mayo with its neo-classical Cathedral, colonial town hall and the Presidential Palace, the "Casa Rosada" which Juan and Eva Peron once inhabited. You then continue to the old neighborhood of San Telmo with its narrow cobblestone streets; La Boca with is multicolor tin houses, the elegant Barrio Norte neighborhood, and Palermo with its wonderful parks and gardens, monuments and magnificent mansions. After a leisurely lunch you have the rest of the afternoon fee for some shopping or a visit to one of the many art galleries. In the evening your guide will be waiting to take you back to San Telmo where you have dinner matched with fine Argentinean wines. After dinner you cross the cobblestone street into the most authentic tango venue in Buenos Aires. Here you will enjoy VIP seating for an authentic Tango performance with the best musicians and dancers in the city.
Day 4 Flight to Iguazu Falls
After breakfast you are met by your guide and escorted to the domestic airport for the flight north to Puerto Iguazu City which borders on Brazil and Paraguay and is the gateway to Iguazu Falls. The Iguazu River is born in Brazil and flows along a plateau for 800 miles before reaching a fault forming a crack in the layers of sandstone and basalt where in an area known as the Devil's Throat and drops 240 feet to the river below. It was discovered in 1541 and is, today a major attraction on both the Argentinean and Brazilian sides. Upon arrival you are met and taken to lunch and then to your hotel where you have a chance to relax. Dinner is at the hotel this evening.
Day 5 Adventures at the Falls
This morning your guide will take you on a walking tour of the upper rim of the falls where you get a panoramic view of the many falls that make up the whole. You then board a park train to the "Devils Throat" where you take a trip along a walkway where you get the chance to see and hear the falls which are 450 feet wide and drop over 240 feet in a display of raw power. You then move to the lower circuit which gives you a different perspective on the falls. Here at the lower level of the falls you feel the spirit of the forest: humidity, sounds, aromas and the penetrating mist that dominates the area. You return to the hotel for lunch and then board special open truck vehicles which will take you on a tour of the local jungles/ You then descend on foot to San Martin Island where you board high-powered Zodiac boats to pass through the lower canyon of the river to the foot of the "Three Musketeers" falls and a few of both the Argentinean and Brazilian side of the falls; wear clothes that you don't mind getting wet.
Day 6 San Carlos de Bariloche
After breakfast you are transferred to the airport for a flight to Buenos Aires connecting to a flight to San Carlos de Bariloche which is located in the heart of the Nahuel Huapi National Park. Founded eighty years ago, the town has an Alpine flavor which is appropriate given its fame as a ski resort during the Argentine winter. In the Spring, summer and Fall it focuses on the outdoor life built around the lake and the mountain. Upon arrival you are transferred to your legendary hotel where a room overlooking the Lake has been reserved. You have a chance to take in the scenic beauty before enjoying dinner at the hotel.
Day 7 Exploring Mount Llao Llao
This morning your destination is one of the most photographed areas in Argentina offering views of stunning peaks and crystalline lakes. You will be hiking up Mount Llao Llao but the pace is leisurely with many stops along the way. Your hike will be well worth it as you gaze down on the panorama below before returning to the hotel.
Day 8 A Private Lake Cruise and Victoria Island Picnic
Today you board a private boat for a sail on one of the most beautiful lakes in Patagonia and surrounded by mountains and woods. You will disembark with your guide on Victoria Island where you enjoy a beautifully presented picnic lunch served on a secluded beach. After lunch your guide will take you on a walk through the Arrayanes Forest and teach you about the unique history of the island and the properties of various trees and roots. If you like you can take a swim in the lake or fish from the shore or the boat before returning to the mainland.
Day 9 El Calafate and the Patagonian Steppes
After breakfast you are transferred to the airport where you board a flight heading South, deeper into Patagonia. Your destination is El Calafate, named for a sweet fruit and home to 20,000 inhabitants. Situated on the Patagonian steppe and close to Lago Argentino with a surface area of 1,000 square miles and fed by glaciers straight from the South Continental Ice Cup. Upon arrival you are transferred to your lodge which sits outside of town in its own 7,000 acre space on the eastern face of Mount Frias. You have the chance relax in the indoor heated pool before enjoying the bounty of the lodge's gourmet restaurant.
Day 10 A Walk on Perito Moreno Glacier
After a sumptuous breakfast enhanced by stunning views starts your day as you await the arrival of your private guide who will take you on a one hour drive to an area of boardwalks allow you to see and as importantly hear the great glacier moving slowly to the lake. If you are lucky you will see the glacier breaking off from the glacier into the lake. After a picnic lunch you will join a small group of fellow adventurers for a sort boat ride across the "Brazo Rico" (the "rich" branch of Lake Argentina) to disembark on the opposite side. After a short walk through birch forests along the lake shore, your professional guides will place crampons on your feet and give you an informative talk on glaciology before you begin a walk on the glacier itself. If this is your first time on a glacier we can assure you that it is the experience of a lifetime. No experience is necessary and the walk on the ice lasts about 90 minutes and always escorted by professional guides. You will experience walking over seemingly endless ice, viewing crevices, underground rivers, waterfalls inside the glacier and ice-caves of iridescent and electric blue hues. Finally you will return by boat navigating very close to the Southern Face of the Glacier for outstanding photo opportunities.
Day 11 Buenos Aires and a Return to the USA
You have the morning at leisure before transferring to the airport for the flight to Buenos Aires where you connect to your return flight back to the United States
Day 12 Arrive in the USA
You arrive back in the USA at breakfast time.
