Day 1 Flying to Belize
You board your flight for the trip to Belize. Most US airlines have morning out of their main gateways like Houston, Atlanta and Dallas so you may need to overnight in that city to catch the flight. Upon arrival in Belize you will be met and escorted to a private aircraft which will fly you to your first resort located close to a National park. Upon arrival your host will give you a briefing on the activities scheduled then you have the chance to relax before dinner.

Day 2 A Day in the Forest
The morning is free to relax and perhaps take a dip in the pool. After lunch your guide will take you on a walk along the nearby orchid trail and allowing you to enjoy the varied birding opportunities along the edge of the Mountain Pine Ridge and the tropical lowland broadleaf forest of the 13,000 acre Noj Kaax Meen Elijio Panti National Park

Day 3 Exploration of Caracol
Today your guide will be ready to take you on a drive through the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve and into the Chiquibul National Park. We drive slowly looking for the Keel-billed Toucans, tapir and even the elusive Jaguar. In just over an hour the narrow jungle road opens on to the vast ceremonial plazas of Caracol, Belize's most important Mayan site. Your expert guide will tell of how Caracol conquered Tikal in 563 AD and you'll imagine how it must have been when over 200,000 Maya inhabited this ancient metropolis. You return to the lodge visiting Rio Frio Cave and the Rio On Pools on the way back.

Day 4 “The Realm of the Jaguar”
Today you will enter the "realm of the Jaguar" and discover the secrets of jaguar research. You'll visit the infra-red cameras of Dr. Marcela Kelly of Virginia Tech and hear about the camera trap and genetic research that is being undertaken in the Chiquibul National Park and the Mountain Ridge Forest Reserve. The field trip will be followed by a class room presentation of camera trap images and data from the jaguar, puma and ocelot density studies.

Day 5 Yaxha and the Shore of Lake Peten Itza
After breakfast, your guide will be waiting to take you to Guatemala. On the way you stop at the important Maya site of Yaxha where you get a personal tour and lunch before heading to your resort overlooking Lake Peten Itza. You have a chance to relax on your verandah overlooking the lake before joining the other guests for dinner. Some of the "other guests" might be howler monkeys who will serenade you during dinner.

Day 6 The Mayan Heritage of Tikal
Today you will tour the magnificent Maya ruins of Tikal with an expert local guide who will lead you through the plazas, along causeways to towering temples. Your guide will explain the complex history and culture of Tikal and the Maya civilization of the Peten lowlands. Howler and Spider Monkeys can be observed along with over 300 species of birds, brocket deer, coatimundi and grey fox. If you have the energy, you can climb to the top of one of the pyramid structures for spectacular views of the lowlands and Lake Peten Itza.

Day 7 The Trip to Placencia
In the morning your car will be waiting to take you to the airport in Flores where you board a flight for Belize City. Upon arrival in Belize you transfer to a flight to Placencia. Once you arrive in Placencia it is only a five minute trip to your hotel which is located on the southern tip of the Placencia Peninsula. You arrive in time for a late lunch. In the afternoon, there's plenty of time to relax and swim in the pool, to kayak Placencia Lagoon looking for Manatee or swing in a hammock and read a book. Since the owner is Francis Ford Coppola you will not be surprised that Italian food rules including a brick oven capable of turning out authentic pizza. Of course with a name like Mare, seafood is another excellent option at the restaurant.

Days 8- 11 Relaxation in Placencia
We have left the days open for you to choose the kind of activity that best suits that day. Snorkel equipment and kayaks are available at no cost. You may however want to go scuba diving or learn to scuba dive at the resort's dive shop. Fly fishing on the Barrier Reef may be your thing or perhaps a visit to the Spa. Choose your pleasure.

Day 12 Return to the USA
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Belize City connecting with your flight to the US which arrives later that same afternoon.
