Day 1 Depart USA

You board your overnight flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina's capital and one of the world's most sophisticated cities. Dinner and Breakfast served on board.

Day 2 Arrival in Buenos Aires

You arrive in Buenos Aires where your driver is waiting to take you to the Alvear Palace which opened its doors in 1932 in the heart of the Recoleta the most refined quarter in Buenos Aires with elegant parks, wide avenues and classical and elegant architecture. The rest of the day is free to relax or explore the neighborhood. This evening you will go to one of the city's better steak houses and that means one of the best anywhere since Argentineans take their beef seriously.

Day 3 A City of Contrasts… and the Tango

Buenos Aires is, undoubtedly, the Latin American city that best resembles the cosmopolitan and aristocratic atmosphere of the big European capitals both Paris and Madrid come to mind. But beyond this Buenos Aires there lies another one, holding the small colored houses of La Boca and the popular tango that lives in San Telmo streets. This is the mixture that makes the city an original and irresistible metropolis. With your private guide you view the city's highlights and delve into its history and culture. In the evening you dine at El Viejo Almacen the location, where, it is said, the Tango was born. It has also been said that only in Buenos Aires could the Tango be born. Only in this haunting city of immigrants could music of such emotional depth spring forth and take hold of a population Tonight you enjoy a musical ode to feelings of longing, passion and love as the sights and sounds of the Tango fill your senses.

Day 4 Flight to Ushuaia, boarding M/V Mare Australis

Your driver picks you up for the trip to the airport where you board your flight to Ushuaia, the" southernmost city in the world". Upon arrival you will board the M/V Mare Australis or her sister ship the M/V Via Australis for your voyage of discovery. While on board, all meals, drinks, wine and shore activities are included. After a welcome reception with the Captain and crew you set sail for the "uttermost part of the earth". Through the mythical Beagle Channel, you will travel to Southern Patagonia, including Tierra del Fuego.

Day 5 Exploring Cape Horn

Today you will sail through the Beagle and Murray Channels to reach Cape Horn National Park where you disembark. Cape Horn, a sheer, 1,300 feet promontory is where the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans merge. Because of the changing winds it was a dangerous passage for ships under sail so "sailing ‘round the horn" was considered a badge of honor for sailors. It was discovered in 1616 by a Dutch expedition and named for the Port of Hoorn in Holland. In the afternoon you will disembark at Wulaia Bay, once the site of one of the region's largest native settlements. The indigenous people used to carry fire on their boats to allow them to create fires when they landed. The Portuguese sailors who saw them named the area "Land of Fire" or "Tierra del Fuego" the name of the province today. Unfortunately the native population was decimated by diseases brought by European hunters in search of wolf pelts.

Day 6 The Glaciers of Chico Inlet

After a fulfilling breakfast you put on your warm weather gear (provided) and board the Zodiac expedition boats and enter the Chico Inlet. Once in the inlet you will see, up close, the Piloto and Nena glaciers and your guides will explain the history of their formation. This it is back to the creature comforts of the ship.

Day 7 Magdalena Island and Punta Arenas

Early in the morning you will disembark on Magdalena Island, the location of a lighthouse that guides ships through the Straits of Magellan. The lighthouse also houses a museum and as you walk up the hill to the get there you pass through more than 120,000 Magellanic Penguins that inhabit the island for a part of the year. You don't bother them and they don't bother you. You then return to the ship for the brief sail into Punta Arenas where your cruise ends. Youur driver meets you as you disembark and takes you on a private tour of Punta Arenas including the Statue of Hernando de Magellanes for whom the Straits of Magellan are named. It is said that if you kiss his foot, you will return to Punta Arenas and we leave this to your discretion.

Day 8 Punta Arenas, overland to Torres Del Paine

This morning a guide fro Explora will be at the hotel to take you into the Torres Del Paine National Park and your base for the next four days. Your guide will explain interesting facts of Flora and Fauna prior to your arrival. Strategically set on the shore of Lake Pehoe, Explora Hotel Salto Chico was conceived as an exploration base site. It features refined comfort for total relaxation and the best gear ideally suited for exploring Patagonia. The adjacent Casa de Banos del Ona features an indoor heated pool, exercise machines, sauna, massage room and open-air Jacuzzis. While you are at the lodge all activities, meals and drinks are included. You have the opportunity to learn about the many activities available to you over the next few days.

Days 9- 11 Exploring Torres Del Paine

You have the opportunity to join a wide range of carefully developed explorations that allow you the best exposure to the wonders of Patagonia and yet the flexibility to take advantage of an unforeseen event. Excellent guides lead half and full day explorations with no more than 10 participants per trip. On foot, horseback, by van or by boat you venture out to expand your horizons knowing that a hot tub and a glass of Chilean or Argentinean wine rewards your return.

Day 12 Traveling to Puerto Varas

In the morning you leave Explora for the return trip to Punta Arenas where you board a flight to Puerto Montt. Upon arrival you are met by your driver and taken to your hotel which is located in the hills above the town of Puerto Varas. Your hotel has a Germanic feel to it and it is known for the personal hospitality that only a family run business can bring. After dinner, there is a casino within walking distance of the hotel.

Day 13 From the Ocean to the Lakes

After breakfast you are transferred to the airport for your flight to Bariloche located in the Lake district of Patagonia. Upon your arrival you are met and driven to your hotel. The Llao Llao Hotel is situated in one of the most scenic spots in Patagonia. Located between the lakes Nahuel Huapi and Moreno it is also surrounded by mountains, This afternoon you have a chance to enjoy the scenery and the resort's many activities.

Day 14 Exploring the natural wonders of Bariloche

This morning you embark on a walking tour that allows you to take a broad look at Bariloche, its surroundings, lakes and history. The aim is to enjoy the woodlands first hand, one of the main attractions of the region. With your guide, you hear the sounds of the forest such as the trill of the chucao or the regular pecking of some woodpecker. You even have the chance to taste some of the herbs that grow in the wild. This afternoon you can take a swim in the pool or the lake, try some mountain biking or just relax at the spa. Did we mention that the resort also has a magnificent golf course?

Day 15 Sailing in tranquil lake waters

After a leisurely breakfast you depart for the dock where you board your sailing boat for a cruise on the lake. As you cruise on the tranquil waters, you are surrounded by mountains and woods. You disembark at Victoria Island where the chef will prepare a gourmet lunch for you. Later you will walk off lunch by exploring the Arrayanes forest with your guide and learning about the properties of trees and roots.
