Description of Half Day Walking Tour - Art and Excess
- Step back in time and enter the fascinating world of the Medici Grand Dukes with a guided tour of the grandiose 35,000 square foot Pitti palace, set among acres of formal gardens on the left bank of the Arno River. This palatial residence, with its separate apartments for summer and winter living, was renovated in 1549 by Eleonora di Toledo for her own use and is now home to several museums.
- The visit will include the Palatine Gallery, the silk-covered walls of which are hung with masterpieces by Raphael, Titian and Van Dyck, as well as the sumptuously-decorated Royal Apartments and the Silver Museum where precious gems and curious objects in ivory and gold are displayed. The tour concludes in the newly-installed Costume Galleries for an entertaining look at three centuries of Florentine fashion.
