Day 1 Depart USA

This evening you board your overnight Business Class flight to Seville to begin your culinary and cultural exploration of Seville.

Day 2 Arrival in Seville

Welcome to Seville. This is a city steeped in romance on an operatic scale: Carmen was set here as was Don Giovanni and not one, but two, Barber of Seville operas by two composers (Rossini and Paisiello). Your driver will be waiting for your arrival and will take you on an orientation tour of the city before dropping you off at your hotel where you have a chance to relax before dinner.

Day 3 Learning to Cook, Seville Style!

You get our culinary adventure off to a fast start by joining your chef/instructor for a morning trip to the market where you will pick the ingredients needed for the preparation of your lunch. You return to the kitchen where, with hands on personalized attention, you learn the skills, ingredients and techniques needed to create the cuisine of Seville. After completion of your feast you eat it accompanied by fine local wines. The afternoon is at leisure to allow you to walk off lunch by exploring the historical area surrounding your hotel or perhaps just giving in, catching a nap, and blaming it on the jetlag. This evening you try the local Tapas scene.

Day 4 Sherry and Seafood in Sanlucar de Barrameda

Today you are driven to Sanlucar de Barrameda which is the second town producing Sherry but less visited by tourists than its sister city, Jerez. While it is a similar distance from Seville as Jerez, it has a spectacular location at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River looking across the Donana national park to the Atlantic Ocean. It is because of this that the town is equally known for its fine seafood. You will start with a visit to the vineyards where the grapes are cultivated. Among the many varieties of Sherries produced, the Manzanilla stands out; similar to a Fino, but with a slightly salty taste making it an excellent accompaniment for fresh fish. After inspecting the vineyards you will be taken to the bodega where the Sherry is blended and fortified and stored in wooden casks for maturation. Here you will get a tutored tasting so that you will begin to know the various types of Sherry. After the tasting you are taken to one of the seafood restaurants along the bank of the estuary where you will indulge in langoustines, shellfish, fine fried fish, seafood and other regional cuisine, all washed down with the finest Manzanilla. You return in the afternoon where the rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 5 Ronda and the Boutique Wineries of Andalusia

After breakfast you are met by your guide and head out of the city to the town of Ronda which is about 80 miles southeast of Seville. Ronda is famous throughout Spain for the gaping river gorge with a sheer drop of 360 feet which divides the medieval from the 18th Century parts of town. Before entering the city you will visit three recently established wineries all of which are around 2,300 feet above sea level, a necessary requisite for making high quality wines so far south. You continue to Ronda where you have lunch in a fine local restaurant sampling local dishes accompanied, of course, by some great local wine. After lunch you have the chance to explore the Moorish and Christian legacy before returning to Seville.

Day 6 Where the Olive Tree is King

On today's excursion you start with a visit to Zahara de la Sierra where you inspect an olive oil mill that dates from 1755. This spectacular white village is situated in the mountainous and beautiful area known as Sierra de Grazalema. After being shown around the mill and having the traditional oil making process explained you will have a chance to taste several of the varieties of oil. After the tasting you will head to Grazalema, another stunning village along one of the most spectacular roads in Spain. In Grazalema you will stop for lunch to sample some of the local food and wine. After lunch you have the chance to explore the town before heading back to Seville.

Day 7 Exploring Seville

Seville was, at one time, Spain's largest city, the gateway through which the riches of the New World poured. It could be that the city learned to enjoy the finer things of like in the days of the Moors, when it was the capital of King Al-Mutamid, known for his love of poetry and music. The Moors left behind marvelous examples of their architecture, such as the Giralda, at one time a minaret and today part of Seville's cathedral which you will visit on your tour today. First you'll admire Maria Luisa Park, drive to the Plaza de Espana, the Gold tower on the Guadalquivir River and the Baroque building which used to be the tobacco factory of Carmen fame. After visiting the cathedral where Columbus is buried and a walking tour of the Santa Cruz quarter, you will enjoy lunch and then the rest of the afternoon is at leisure in the city before returning to your hotel. This evening you will enjoy a farewell dinner followed by authentic Flamenco.

Day 8 Return to USA

After breakfast your driver will be waiting to take you to the airport for your return flight to the US where you arrive back the same afternoon.
