Day 2 Welcome to Africa
You arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon and after arrival formalities you are met by our representative and escorted to your car which will take you to your hotel, a Nairobi institution since 1904. Depending on how you feel you might try a light supper or head straight to bed for a good night's rest in anticipation of the adventures ahead.
Day 3 Morning Flight to Amboseli
After breakfast you are driven to the domestic airport where your aircraft is waiting to fly you over the scenic Athi Plains and into the bush country of Amboseli famous for huge herds of elephant. Your base will be Porini Camp, an exclusive bush camp of just nine tents in the Selenkay Conservancy, a private reserve beside Amboseli National Park in unspoilt wilderness and well off the beaten track; the animals are truly wild and not yet habituated to the presence of vehicles. This is also an important dispersal area and rangeland for wildlife migrating out of Amboseli. You enjoy a game drive in the afternoon and later a "sundowner" followed by dinner.
Day 4 Day and Night Game Viewing in Amboseli
Since you are in a private reserve you have the chance to not only view the animals in the early morning hours but to take a game drive after dinner where spotlights allow you to observe the nocturnal habits of the animals and some animals only seen in the night time hours.
Day 5 From Amboseli to Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania is your next destination and is one of the natural wonders of the world. An extinct volcano measuring 100 square miles and with surrounding walls 1,800 feet it is the perfect caldera, the largest on earth. Your lodge is perched on the rim of the crater consisting of three glamorous camps each with ten Masai-inspired suites perched on stilts on the rim of the crater, set in classic crescents, each stone and thatch suite has spectacular views of the crater from large glass windows in the bathroom, lounge and bedroom. Upon arrival and after chance to relax, you go into the crater for an afternoon game drive.
Day 6 Full day Game Drive in Ngorongoro
This morning you head out with your guide for a full day game drive within the crater. A sanctuary for over 25,000 animals, the crater is also frequented by the Masai. Today you will search for lion, elephants, leopard, cheetah and plains game. You're certain to see most but the leopard can be elusive. Youll return in time for a special sundowner as the setting sun sets the crater ablaze.
Day 7 Olduvai Gorge and the Serengeti Plain
You awaken to the sounds of the animals and begin your day with a visit to Olduvai Gorge where Dr. Leakey made his amazing and sometimes controversial discovery. One of the staff will give you a lecture on fossils of both our human ancestors and those of the animals alive in those times. Leaving the Gorge you proceed to the Serengeti National Park where you check into your lodge famous for its location on the main wildebeest migration route between the Serengeti and the Masai Mara, along the bank of the Grumeti River. You have time for a swim before embarking on an evening game drive.
Day 8 A Day on the Serengeti
An early morning bush walk has been arranged for you this morning accompanied by a special breakfast prepared and served in the bush. You have time to relax during the middle of the day before embarking on an evening game drive. A spectacular "sundowner" precedes dinner under the stars.
Day 9 From the Serengeti to the Maasai Mara
This morning you fly to your luxury camp in the Maasai Mara. Upon arrival, you have lunch and a chance to relax before heading out on an evening game drive. Your hotel is situated on the banks of the Mara River so you have the opportunity to enjoy dinner as hippos frolic in the nearby waters.
Days 10- 11 Game Viewing in the Maasai Mara
You have two full days to absorb the rhythm of the African plain as you take both morning and evening game rides to ensure that you have the greatest opportunity to see a variety of game. Apart from the seasonal migrations, the game viewing is superb at other times of the year with the "big five" in abundance. This is Africa as you picture it. In fact, most of the movie "Out of Africa" was filmed here. Your morning and evening game viewings allows you to take it all in. If you want a different perspective, Governor's Camp offers optional balloon safaris at dawn allowing you to see Elephant, Giraffe and other game from a totally different perspective.
