Day 2 Welcome to Kenya
You arrive in Nairobi in the afternoon and after completing arrival formalities you are met by our representative who will escort you to your hotel, centrally-located and a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.. Although in the city it offers a tranquil setting for you to explore as you walk off the effects of your flight. You may opt for a light supper and then head to bed to prepare for the exploration ahead
Day 3 Insight into Nairobi
After breakfast you are met by your guide and driver for an exploration of some of the historic and cultural highlights of Nairobi, Kenya's capital city. Your first stop will be Daphne Sheldrick's Elephant Orphanage where young elephants are raised to be returned to the wild. You have the opportunity to "adopt" an elephant if you choose. You then move on to Karen Blixen's House built in 1912 and familiar to readers of her book, "Out of Africa". You will have a light lunch at the Utamaduni Craft Centre where you have the chance to view crafts made by the Masai and also by ex-Nairobi street children. After lunch you go to the Giraffe Centre dedicated to the preservation of Rothschild giraffes. You get the opportunity to meet the giraffes in person before returning to your hotel. This evening you will dine at a Nairobi landmark, the Carnivore restaurant, as its name suggests, meat is the specialty with a focus on exotic game.
Day 4 Amboseli National Park
After a hearty breakfast you are ready to explore the countryside. You meet your guide in the lobby and head out of Nairobi in a South East direction. As you drive your guide will point out areas of interest. Soon the imposing sight of snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro appears indicating that you are in close proxinmity to Amboseli National Park. Game is plentiful here and the park is noted for its large elephant herds. Upon arrival at your hotel you have lunch and then take some time to relax before taking an evening game drive. As with all evenings on your exploration, feel free to have dinner on your schedule.
Day 5 The Diversity of Flora and Fauna in Amboseli
Amboseli offers a diversity of landscapes ranging from woodland to plains, swamps to scrub brush and this creates numerous micro environments for a variety of game. During your morning and evening game drives you will see elephant for sure but also all manner of plains game such as wildebeest and zebra. In the evening you are more likely to see the predators searching for their evening meal. Lion, cheetah, hyena and the occasional leopard although they tend to be more elusive
Day 6 Flying to the Maasai Mara
After a morning game drive you board your light aircraft for the flight to the Maasai Mara close to the border with Tanzania. More than transportation, this is the chance to see the wide spread of the great rift valley beneath you. You are high enough to see the panorama but low enough to enjoy the game below you. Upon arrival you are transferred to your lodge where you have lunch and a chance to relax before an evening game drive.
Days 7- 8 In the Company of the Maasai
The Maasai Mara Game reserve is only part of the territory making up the domain of the Maasai. Although strong and fierce in appearance these people are in harmony with nature preferring to tend to their cattle and leave the wild game undisturbed. This is Africa as you have imagined it, in fact, a good portion of " Out of Africa" was filmed here. During your morning and evening game drives you will see your fill of game especially the abundant lions but also elephant and giraffes. In between game drives you can visit a local school and get to know the Maasai better.
Day 9 Return to Nairobi and USA
Today you return to Nairobl where a dayroom has been reserved to allow you to relax until you are taken to the airport for your late evening departure.
Day 10 Arrive in The USA
After connecting in Europe you arrive back in the USA in the afternoon.
