Day 2 Arrival in Johannesburg

Upon your afternoon arrival in Johannesburg we will be met and personally escorted to your hotel, Fairlawns, which is situated in close proximity to the airport. This spectacular boutique hotel will offer a classic and elegant welcome to South Africa. After check in, you will have dinner followed by a good night’s sleep.

Day 3 Windhoek and Mowani Mountain Camp

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for the flight to Windhoek in Namibia. You will be met and  escorted us to the general aviation airport where your plane and pilot await you for the flight to Etosha National Park.  Upon landing you are transferred to Mowani Mountain Camp located in the Twyfelfontein Conservancy .

Day 4 A Day in Damaraland

After breakfast you will visit the world-famous Petroglyphs at Twyfelfontein and get an understanding of how the early San people communicated with their ancestors. Twyfelfontein is on the list to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After Twyfelfontein you will visit the strangely formed Organ Pipes and the Burnt Mountain which is so named because about 120 million years ago, volcanic lava intruded limestone and caused metamorphism giving the mountain its distinctive color. You will also have the opportunity to walk in the valley of the Organ Pipes which are located in a dry river bed. This mass of perpendicular dolerite pillars was created about the same time as Burnt Mountain.

Day 6 Damaraland, Swakopmund and Desert Homestead

After breakfast, your plane will be ready to take you to Swakopmund, Namibia’s Coastal Resort. At the beginning of the 20th Century, this was the way that supplies reached Windhoek the capital of this, at that time, German colony. Since the bay is shallow, a long pier was built and freighters would unload to a narrow gauge train which would take the goods inland. Today, the railroad station has been transformed into a casino and entertainment complex. Your guide will bring you into town where you have the chance to explore the town and have  lunch. After lunch you return to the airstrip for your flight to the Sossusvlei environs. Your flight takes you over the impressive Namib Sand Sea to your destination for the night, Desert Homestead. The Nubib, Tsaris and Nauluft Mountains shelter the wide grassy valley in which the lodge is situated. Tranquil surroundings, al fresco dining, delectably fresh farm cuisine, a refreshing dip in the pool, stunning sunsets and sunrises are the basic pleasures at the lodge.

Day 7 The Dunes at Sossusvlei and Wolwedans Dunes Lodge

Today you will be up early to visit the world famous dunes at Sossusvlei. you have the whole morning to explore with your guide the mysteries of the Namib Desert. Although it may appear barren, it is actually called the “living desert of the world”. We’ll see if you can find the tracks of the Namib Golden Mole, the Dune Lark, which is the only true endemic bird in Namibia, as well as track of the Namib Sidewinder.  The more energetic can attempt to climb to the top of Big daddy, a dune believed to be the highest in the area measuring a mere 960 feet above sea level. You will either have lunch under one of the many Camelthorn trees or back at the lodge. After lunch ,a representative from your next lodge will meet fo for a scenic drive to Wolwedans Dune Lodge.

Day 8 Exploring the NamibRand

Your base for your exploration is the Wolwedans Dunes Lodge which aims at providing a unique experience, close to nature yet without sacrificing comfort and style. The entire lodge is constructed on wooden platforms and overlooks the 400,000 acre NamibRand Reserve in all directions. You will take an early morning and an evening game drive to learn about the animals and how they adapt to their desert environment. When you return from the evening game drive, you sit by the fireplace on the sundowner deck before enjoying your farewell dinner in Namibia.

Day 9 NamibRand, Windhoek, Maun and Stanley’s Camp

After breakfast at leisure you are transferred to the airstrip where you board your aircraft for the flight to Windhoek where you take a commercial flight to Maun in Botswana. You will be met by your new pilot and escorted to your aircraft for the ten minute flight to your camp. Stanley’s is a small luxury camp consisting of eight classic styled safari tents raised on wooden decking. The elegantly appointed tents exude classic Africa; hand crafted beds dressed with the finest linen, antique furniture individually selected and oriental carpets all add up to an Africa of yesteryear but with electricity, private bathrooms and a viewing deck. You have a chance to relax by the infinity pool this afternoon. After afternoon tea you head out to the bush for some evening game viewing followed by dinner.

Day 10 Elephant Interaction at Stanley’s Camp

This morning instead of the morning game drive, you have the unique opportunity to spend time getting to know Morula, Jabu, and Thembi, a trio of semi-habituated elephanst. You will walk with them as they forage, observe them and interact with them including a lunch in the bush with just you, your guides and the elephants. After this experience you have the afternoon to relax before an evening game drive. Game viewing is extremely good with excellent numbers of predators and plains-game in these 260,000 acres of untamed African bush. The area houses one of the largest buffalo populations in the Okavango delta. In the dry season the population can concentrate into a herd in excess of two thousand.

Day 11 Fly to Chief’s Camp

You get an early morning wake up with coffee or tea and biscuits served in your room. You will then take a mokoro excursion which is a flat bottomed dug out canoe ideal for moving along the shallow delta floodplains. This allows you to see the animals both alongside and in the water particularly elephants and hippos. You return to the camp for breakfast then to the airstrip for a twenty minute flight to Chief’s camp situated on Chief’s Island in the exclusive Mombo Concession of the Moremi Game Reserve. In this “predator capital of Africa”, wild dog, lion, cheetah and leopard abound.

Day 12 Game Viewing in the Moremi Reserve

Your camp is made up of twelve secluded permanent luxury bush pavilions, designed for ultimate privacy and comfort. Each pavilion features a thatched roof, spacious seating area, a four-poster bed, and private bathroom with both indoor and outdoor private showers as well as a viewing deck with a hammock and deck chairs. This is your base as you enjoy both a morning and an evening game drive. If you want, you can opt for a walking game drive along with an armed guide. After your evening game driver you will enjoy a sumptuous dinner under the stars before retiring for the night.

Day 13 Moremi, Kasane and Chobe National Park

Depending on the water level you will take a mokoro excursion in the morning prior to breakfast. You will then go to the airstrip to fly to Kasane where a representative of Chobe Chilwero will be there to meet you and escort you to the camp. In the local language of Setswana, Chilwero means “place of high view”. An apt name for a lodge whose accommodations look out over lush flood plains towards Namibia on the horizon.  Chobe covers a wide variety of countryside: riverine forest, flood plain, periodic marsh, mopane and miombo woodland and a few rocky outcrops. This diversity of habitats permits a wide variety of wildlife, which ranges from water animals such as hippos, crocodiles, otter and fish, to forest and dry-land species such as elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and eland. In all areas predators abound including lion, leopard, cheetah, and both species of hyena. Youwill experience many of these habitats during your stay at the camp starting with an afternoon game drive.

Day 14 The Chobe Experience

For the true lover of unspoiled Africa, today will capture the magnificence and very real essence of Botswana’s natural landscapes and wildlife heritage. Safari activities at Chobe are diverse and will be tailored to your individual requirements. Game viewing of course, but fishing in the Chobe river (catch and release) is another interesting alternative. To top it off, there is a sunset cruise which provides spectacular wildlife viewing and vistas of an African sunset. You then return to the lodge for cocktails and dinner .

Day 15 Chobe to Victoria Falls

Early morning freshly brewed tea or coffee enjoyed in your room will be followed by a morning gaming activity. You can either choose a mokoro excursion (subject to water levels) or a vehicle game excursion. In either case, you return to camp for a light breakfast before being picked up by your driver for a ride to your new hotel crossing the Zambian border along the way. Satnley Safari Lodge is the exclusive oasis for the new explorers of Victoria Falls. With only 10 private cottages, it is able to give an unmatched level of personalized service.

Day 16 Mosi-u-Tunya (the smoke that thunders)

David Livingstone, intrepid explorer, viewing the Falls for the first time from his dugout canoe, in November 1855, could hardly believe his eyes at such a spectacle. It is widely accepted that it was he who brought the discovery to the rest of the world; the Falls were named after his Queen Empress, Victoria.  Your guide will take you over to expolore the spectacle of the falls as they plungs into the Zambezi River. After  lunch we embark on an afternoon cruise on the Zambezi River to experience another aspect of the river and the falls. You enjoy a farewell dinner preceded by cocktails as you watch the spray rising up from the falls.

Day 17 Johannesburg and the Return to the USA

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for the flight to Johannesburg where you connect to your flight to the US.

Day 18 Arrival in USA

Youur flight arrives back in the US at breakfast time.
