DAY 1 (Jan 17): Arrival Nairobi
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, our Safari Driver Guide will meet and greet and then provide a private transfer to the city for overnight stay at Nairobi Boulevard Hotel on Bed and Breakfast basis.
DAY 2 (Jan 18): Nairobi – Amboseli National Park
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, our safari driver cum Tour Guide will meet and greet and then proceed with safari to Amboseli National Park set at the foot of the magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro. The park has a prolific population of Elephants. Other animals likely to be seen here are Buffalo, Lion, Gazelle, Cheetah, Wildebeest, Hyena, Jackal, Masai Giraffe and Zebra. Arrive by lunchtime. Afternoon game drive follows after lunch. Dinner and overnight will be at Amboseli Sopa Lodge on FB Basis.
DAY 3 (Jan 19): Amboseli National Park
Full day is spent at Amboseli. Depart for an early morning game drive and return back to the Lodge/Camp for breakfast. Rest of the morning will be spent at leisure, relaxing by the pool. A visit to the Maasai village can be arranged at an extra cost. Lunch and afternoon game drive follows. Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge on FB Basis
DAY 4 (Jan 20): Amboseli – Aberdares National Park
After breakfast drive North for Aberdares National Park with a brief stop at Nairobi. Proceed with safari where you drive past pineapple, coffee and banana plantations to one of the largest open air markets in East and Central Africa-Karatina and also home to the largest tribe in Kenya - The Kikuyu. Outspan Hotel is reached in time for lunch. Transfer to Treetops (please limit your luggage to an overnight bag - the remainder can be stored at Outspan. Bathroom facilities are shared). Dinner and overnight will be at Treetops on FB Basis.
DAY 5 (Jan 21): Aberdares National Park – Samburu Game Reserve
An early morning transfer to Outspan Hotel for breakfast and to collect your luggage. Drive North across the Equator to Samburu Game Reserve, the semi arid region of the nomadic Samburu people. Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. An early evening drive allows viewing of the rare local species of Zebra and Giraffe. Dinner and overnight at Samburu Sopa Lodge on FB Basis
DAY 6(Jan 22): Samburu Game Reserve
Full day at Samburu with morning and afternoon game drives in this dry semi-arid park with its striking background view of the Mathew's Range. The gently flowing Uaso Nyiro River is populated by Hippos and Crocodiles and traverses this Park providing evergreen vegetation for the rare long-necked Gerenuk, Grevy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich and Reticulated Giraffe found in this park. All meals and overnight will be at Samburu Simba Lodge on FB Basis.
DAY 7 (Jan 23): Samburu Game Reserve – Sweetwater’s Game Sanctuary
After breakfast, drive to Ol Pejeta Ranch which is surrounded by acres of true bush country with its varied terrain of riverine forest, savannah plains and low hills. Lunch at Sweet waters Tented Camp. Afternoon game drive introduces you to a large selection of different animals. The beautifully marked reticulated Giraffe, Buffaloes, Oryx and a lot of plain game. Enjoy spectacular views of Mount Kenya and visit the Chimps, in the 110000 acre Sanctuary. This Sanctuary is home to 42 orphaned Chimps, age varying from 2-15 years, most of which came from Jane Goodall Institute in Burundi. Latest inclusion is Gashuhe who arrived in March 2008 after being rescued from business premises in Kigali, Rwanda. It’s at this Sanctuary that you will get a chance to feed a Black Rhino. DAY 8 (Jan 24): Sweetwater’s Game Sanctuary – Lake Nakuru National Park
After a buffet breakfast, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park with a stop at Thompson’s Fall, a beautiful waterfall at the Ewaso Nyiro River which is 74 meters (243 feet) high. Continue with safari down the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley.
We’ll take a brief stop for a few camera shots of this amazing natural phenomenon. The history of this valley dates back to thousands of years during some great earth movements that caused massive shifting of the earth’s foundation rocks. This massive valley stretches from the Middle East down through East Africa to Mozambique in Southern Africa holding along great lakes. (e.g. Victoria, Turkana, Baringo, Bogoria, Nakuru, Naivasha, Elementaita, Magadi, Natron, Tanganyika, etc). Arrive by lunchtime.
The park is a bird and rhino sanctuary and a World Heritage Site and is famous for its millions of pink flamingoes. Lunch and afternoon game drive follows. A late afternoon game drive will allow you to see the many wild animals in the park. You will also be taken to a cliff view point overlooking the lake. Dinner and overnight will be at Lake Nakuru Lodge.
DAY 9 (Jan 25): Lake Nakuru National Park - Naivasha
Wake up for an early morning game drive returning to the Lodge/Camp for a late leisurely breakfast. We depart Lake Nakuru stopping for a panoramic view of Lake Elementaita arriving at Naivasha by lunchtime. Lake Naivasha is home to an incredible variety of bird species. Over 400 species have been recorded here. Afternoon can be spent by going for a bird walk around the lake. Dinner and overnight at Naivasha Sopa Lodge Resort on FB Basis
DAY 10 (Jan 26): Naivasha - Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, drive through the Great Rift Valley, the dramatic landscape and the plains inhabited by the Maasai pastoralists and across the ‘bread basket’ of Kenya covered with acres of wheat and barley. We take a brief stop at Narok town for refuelling and then climb the western wall entering Hemingway’s country; “Serengeti Plains”. The Masai Mara Game Reserve adjoins Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and is reached in time for lunch. Later at 4pm proceed for an evening game viewing drive in search of black manned Lions, Elephants, Leopards, Cheetahs, Buffalos and other plains game. The sighting of Rhino and Leopard cannot be guaranteed and luck is a necessary factor as they are sparsely numbered, very shy and elusive. Dinner and overnight is taken at Mara Simba Lodge.
DAY 11 (Jan 27): Full Day Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast at 0730hrs, start tracking game with your Animal Passion Tours & Safaris guide in this Reserve which borders Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park as only an artificial border separates the two.
Meaning dotted plains in the Maasai language, Mara is a vast area with scattered pockets of Acacia woodland inhabiting a wide variety of fauna. The Masai Mara is renowned for staging the Great Migration, recently named as the seventh wonder of the modern world.
A full day is spent game viewing across (from 0800-1600 hrs) the rich, tree studded grassland and rolling hills. This reserve is the most visited Park in Kenya and the best for game as it has an extensive road and track network, which allows excellent photography and close viewing opportunities. The famous Mara is renowned for its great herds of plains game, black manned Lions, Leopards and Cheetahs. It also has numerous Elephants and virtually every type of wildlife to be found in Kenya. Antelopes, Wildebeests, Zebras and Maasai Giraffes can be seen as well as scavengers like Hyenas and Vultures. Bird life is also prolific with over 450 species having been recorded.
View game enroute to Mara River where you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch besides the river as you watch Hippos and with luck Crocodiles on the river bank and one of the Wildebeests crossing points. We return to Lodge at 4pm.
OPTIONAL ACTIVITY: At 1700hrs, visit a nearby Masai village to see their nomadic lifestyle. (At an extra fee payable directly to the Maasai villagers – The Maasai are famous for their bravery, as they have co-existed with the animals over the years.) Rest of evening is spent at leisure with dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge on FB Basis.
DAY 12 (Jan 18): Masai Mara National Reserve – Nairobi
After a leisurely buffet breakfast, depart for Nairobi with souvenir shopping enroute or in Nairobi. Arrive in time for lunch at Jacaranda Hotel in Nairobi. In the afternoon we’ll provide a free city tour of Nairobi city.
We recommend a farewell dinner at the Carnivore, justifiably referred to as ‘Africa's Greatest Eating Experience’, for some succulent stew and barbecue dishes of game meat as an excellent compliment to a holiday in Kenya. Later you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
