We reckon the best way to experience the most outstanding scenery we’ve ever seen is to soar like the native buzzards in its skies. Embark on a voyage into Québec’s heartland by private floatplane, landing on water in the middle of pristine lakes, staying at extraordinary nature lodges and journey back in time with the legends of the Amerindian forefathers.
Up, Up and Away
On your arrival at Québec City airport you’ll be whisked downtown to your hotel, the slick and elegant Auberge Saint Antoine. Dinner at a fabulous local gastronomic ‘Québecois’ hotspot, Le Patriarche, is on us, so once you’ve settled in we’ll whisk you off to experience the very best in fine dining this cosmopolitan city has to offer. The next morning your aero-adventure begins as you board your private floatplane from Québec City, flying west to the picturesque log-built Sacacomie Hotel. The views from the windows as you soar through the sky are likely to keep your nose pressed firmly against the glass for the duration of the short flight. Stunning doesn’t really cover it. Witness the city turn into an endless evergreen panorama, broken up only by the glistening lakes poured between its mountain peaks. With all meals included you have the perfect excuse to work up a thoroughly good appetite by taking advantage of the huge range of al fresco activities on offer at this authentic picture postcard location.
Get up close to all that wilderness around you and take to the water in a carved wood bark canoe, try your luck at fishing, or horse ride through lakeside forests. You can even jump on the back of an army vehicle to steal a glimpse of Québec’s most famous furry resident, the wild black bear, with a local tracker no less. If instead you just fancy sitting back and putting your paws up (and why not?), this truly peaceful spot boasts a fully-equipped spa bursting with treatments to rejuvenate even the most stressed out guest, and more importantly, stunning views over the lake.
Fish Tales and Old Legends
Hopping back into the floatplane it’s time to venture deeper into the Mauricie region. Next stop, the historic Seigneurie du Triton fishing camp. With 12 lakes and one river, this fisherman’s dream boasts spectacular trout fishing, its own smokehouse and expert tuition to have you reeling in the catch of the day in no time.
Up next is the experience of a lifetime. Be wowed when you discover the real Amerindian way of life by joining a local family for dinner around the campfire. Descended from the aboriginal clans that lived in Québec long before the pioneers arrived, anything these guys don’t know about Nokomis (the land) isn’t worth knowing. Stargaze and listen to legends of the forefathers before bunking down in a traditional teepee by the glowing embers of the evening’s campfire. A truly unique adventure guaranteed to get even the hardest city-slicker communing with nature…
Into the Wild: Charlevoix
Flying east we’ll then whisk you away to the heart of the Charlevoix region on what has to be the most exciting flight of the whole adventure. Witness this untouched breathtaking landscape, where you can still see the ripple effects of the meteorite that landed here thousands of years ago. Touch down directly onto Lac Moreau. When you’re finally able to tear yourself away from the jaw-dropping views from your private deck at the Auberge du Ravage, share some of your own wilderness tales over dinner with fellow adventurers or just in the company of a crackling fire.
In the morning it’s time to swap the forest for the cultural delights for your last port of call Québec City, where you have the day to explore nearby galleries, museums or indulge in a spot of shopping before you catch your flight home.
