Description of Driving Experiences - Bring your car to the Alps
Our 5 night self drive alpine tour is for persons wishing to bring their own car down to the Alps, and wanting to experience the most spectacular sights and driving roads in the Black Forest, Swiss and Austrian Alps and parts of the South Tyrol. The drive starts in Baden Baden, and includes 1 day driving through the Black Forest, and 3 days in the Alps, including drives around what is considered the most beautiful area in Switzerland, Engadine, and a visit to Parco dello Stelvio and run over the iconic Stelvio Pass.
Day 1 - Drive to Baden Baden via the Champagne Region
Drive directly from Calais to Reims where we recommend you stop for lunch at the Le Jardin restaurant, which is part of the beautiful 5 star Hotel Les Crayers. Either before or after lunch, you then drive a 90 minute loop of “Route Champagne” and through the small national park south of the city, before continuing your journey east and onto Baden Baden where you will based for the evening, On arrival, check into the Belle Epoque hotel. The hotel is set in it own grounds just 5 minutes walk from the centre of the town.
Drive: 820KM / 7 Hours 30 plus stops from Calais.

Day 2 - South through the Black Forest to Zurich
Today you will head south to Switzerland along the fast and sweeping trail through the heart of the Black Forest, taking in Route 500, possibly the best “drivers” road in the forest, as well as visits to the Triberg Falls and Lake Titisee, where you will take late afternoon drinks, before completing your journey to Zurich. Arrive Zurich late afternoon and check into the stunning 5 Star Superior Widder Hotel, set in the heart of Zurich’s old town it’s the perfect place to explore the city, lake and river from, all withina couple of minutes walk.
Drive: 320KM/ 5 hours 30 plus stops.

Day 2 - The Central Swiss Alps and Rhine Gorge Valley
Today is an absolutely stunning drive, 1 hour south from Zurich and you will be heading over the Klausen Pass, site of the famous pre war hill climb, you then enter the heart of the central Swiss Alps tackling the Susten, Grimsel and finally Furka Pass (of James Bond fame). After lunch head along the Rhine Gorge Valley, then south to St Moritz via the rugged Albula Pass. You really wont experience a better day driving anywhere in the Alps, guaranteed!!

Day 3 - Stelvio Loop
Today you will spend the day driving some of the most beautiful and scenic roads in the Engadine region of Switzerland, tracing a path along the unspoiled lower engadine valley, stopping in several immaculately preserved villages, such as Tarasp with its Medieval castle. Now head south into Italy and the Parco dello Stelvio, and over the Stelvio pass, with its famous wall of 45 switchback turns – the pass itself climbs to 2750M. Return to Switzerland via the Poshchiva valley and Bernina Pass, following the path of the Bernina Express railway.

Day 4 - Return to Zurich via the Austrian Vorarlberg
For the return drive you will head north east and into the Austrian Vorarlberg. The Austrian Alps have a quite different feeling to the Swiss Alps, being a lot greener, and less granite like in the formation. The run back takes in some of the most dramatic passes in the Alps, including our number 1 for 2010 the Hahtenjoch.
On the drive back you will take lunch in the jet set ski resort of Lech, overlooking the Arlberg mountain, before completing your journey back to Zurich via several lower mountain passes. Spend the evening in Zurich dining out at the Terrace restaurant, return to the UK next morning.
