Driving Experience - Four Passes in 1 Day

A 2 night break, where you will spend 1 day on a round trip across 4 of the most spectacular mountain passes in Switzerland, before returning via the shores of Lake Luzern. For this break you will remain based in Zurich, and have two evenings to enjoy the lakeside walks, shopping and varied nightlife of this small and charming international city.

Day 1 - Arrival

Private transfers directly from Zurich airport to the Hotel. After check in, take a walk along the world famous shopping thoroughfare that is Bahnhofstrasse, with its incredible collection of jewelry and designer stores. Continue to Lake Zurich, where you can stroll along the lakeside promenade.

Drive Walkthrough – this afternoon / evening we will be meet at the Widder Hotel for a complete a full walkthrough of your drives and itinerary for the next 5 days. This walkthrough will be given by your drive concierge in Switzerland. Normally these are scheduled for 17:00 hours.

Day 2 - Touring

Stage 1 – Into the Alps - Your car will be delivered directly to the hotel next morning, after a quick handover, you then head south into the Alps. Initially you will take a run along the western shores of Lake Zurich, arriving at the medieval town of Rapperswil. Now cross the lake, and head directly to the Klausen Pass –the Klausen was the site of the pre war hill climb race, rises more than 3500 feet consisting of 136 curves, a stunning drive. When you arrive at the top, stop for a coffee, and admire the views back down the pass. Now head to the base of the pass and arrive in the town of Altdorf, birthplace of William Tell with a small and interesting museum, dedicated to his legacy.
Drive time: 2 hours 30 plus stop for coffee & lunch

Stage 2 – The "Big 3" Passes - From Altdorf you will continue your journey south to the “Big 3” passes of the central Swiss Alps, the Susten, Grimsel and Furka. After the climb over the Susten, and a brief visit to the Stein Glacier you will stop for lunch in the heart of the Alps. Now make the ascent over the Grimsel pass, one of the most dramatic passes in the Alps with its granite like rock formations, then onto the Furka pass, famously used for the 007 car chase in Goldfinger, and one of the most beautiful in the Alps. On the ascent of the Furka, stop at the Belvedere Hotel, cross the road and visit the Rhone Glacier, you can walk up to and into the source of the Rhone, quite breathtaking.
Drive time: 2 hours plus stop for coffee/visit Rhone Glacier

Stage 3 – Lake Luzern - Now complete the ascent to the top of the Furka, and down the other side, and start your journey north back in the direction of Zurich. You will then divert from the main highway as you approach Lake Luzern, and follow the coastal road along its eastern shores, passing through some of the nicest lakeside towns anywhere in Switzerland, such as Fitznau and Brunnen. Continue until you arrive at Weggis, our favorite town on the lake, where you can stop for early evening drinks overlooking the lake. Complete your journey back to Zurich with a run over the Albis Pass, a truly stunning day of driving.

Day 3 - Zurich City

After your day of driving, spend your final day exploring the beautiful and compact city of Zurich.  The Widder hotel is perfectly located in the heart of the old town to explore the variety of shops, cafes and boutiques, then only 10 minutes walk from lake Zurich.  Later that day we will organise private transfers back to Zurich airport.
