Driving a Convertible in Italy - ALFA ROMEO, FERRARI SPIDER

Driving along the shores of Lake Maggiore in Italy is truly breath-taking. With the sun shining and the wind in your hair you’ll feel delighted to be alive. Staying in wonderful lakeshore properties like the Villa Crespi on the shores of Lago di Orta – this is a great way to spend a few days!

Sample dinner at the villa’s Michelin-starred restaurant! Enjoy a swim in the lake this morning – bracing but good for you - surely! Then hop in the car and head south bound for Florence – the cradle of the Renaissance. I’d recommend a visit to the ‘Ufffizi’ to see Botticelli’s paintings – The Birth of Venus and Primavera (Springtime).

Cruise through Tuscany – where golf can be arranged if you wish – and try to make time for lunch in magical Siena. A couple of night’s on the Tuscany coast in Porto Ercole is recommended. The wealthy Italians flock here in the summer months to enjoy the cafes, restaurants and boating marinas of the coast. Stay at the lovely Il Pellicano and enjoy dinner on one of the terraces over-looking the sea.

Just about 90 minutes drive down the coast is Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Airport and your homeward flight. The car can be returned to our representative at the airport. Nearby is Ostia Antica (the port of Rome in ancient times), it is a very interesting archaeological site and well worth a visit if you’ve got a spare couple of hours. It is literally 3 kms from the airport.
