Your Tour

This eight day self drive tour takes you to the North of Greece after spending some time in Athens. This shows you the best of the Classical and natural mainland, including stays in Delphi, Zagorochoria and Pelion. This tour is a great way to see the real mainland Greece and the natural beauty this region has to offer.

Day 1 (AIRPORT ARRIVAL TRANSFER)

On your arrival in Athens you will be met by our English speaking driver who will take you to your central Athens hotel. Check in to your hotel, freshen up and the rest of the day is yours to do as you please. Depending on your arrival time we suggest that you head to the Plaka area, at the base of the Acropolis, to have a look around this fun and busy part of Athens. If you have more than half a day we can arrange tours of Athens and trips down to the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion. Start your authentic Greek experience by having dinner at a traditional Greek taverna.

Day 2 (DRIVE & OVERNIGHT IN DELPHI)
The day starts with breakfast in your hotel, after which your hire car will be dropped off to you. Once you have loaded up your car and checked out of the hotel, you start your journey by driving up to Delphi, 180 kilometre drive away, mostly by major highway. Passing by Thebes, you then travel through Levadia before reaching the quaint town of Arachova, at the foot of Mount Parnassos. Arachova is the perfect place to find some lunch and look over the lace and silver shops. Just beyond Arachova is the archaeological site of Delphi, home of the Oracle and one of the most sacred sites in Greece. The archaeological site and the museum are must see places on your trip, with the history and mythology a fascinating insight into modern and ancient Greek life. You can choose to wander the site on your own or allow us to arrange an English speaking guide to show you the site and explain the history. After your visit to the archaeological site, drive yourself to your hotel in Delphi where you will spend the night. There are plenty of restaurants and tavernas on Delphi town to keep you occupied for the evening.

Day 3 (DRIVE & OVERNIGHT IN METEORA)
Your day will start with breakfast in your hotel and after checking out it's off to Kalambaka and Meteora, approximately 225 kilometres to the north of Delphi. You will drives towards the towns of Lamia, Karditsa and Trikala before hitting the amazing mountains on which the monasteries of Meteora are perched. Visiting the monasteries should be the priority of your day as you wonder just how they built these remarkable structures high on the mountains. These monasteries are inhabited by monks to this day. After visiting Meteora, drive to the town of Kalambaka, in the shadow of the mountains, check into the hotel of your choice in town and relax for the evening. There are plenty of tourist friendly restaurants and bars for you to discover.

Day 4 (DRIVE & OVERNIGHT IOANNINA)
Once you are up, breakfasted and checked out you will be heading towards Ioannina, approximately 115 kilometres away. One of the first stops you should make is Metsovo, a lovely village, 1000 metres above sea level and known over Greece for its wine, cheese and architecture. Ioannina is the capital of the Epirus province and an important trading centre. With a strong Turkish influence, it is the place to purchase in Greece to buy hookah pipes. It is also home to some of the country's best silversmiths. Ioannina is also close to Lake Pamviotis and the Vikos-Aoos National Park, the later has some wonderful hiking trails. There is also a fascinating mosque, caves, museums and galleries in which you can spend your time. Check into your hotel and maybe spend your evening in a local taverna soaking up the atmosphere. You also have the option to stay in a hotel in Zagorohoria this evening.

Day 5 (DRIVE TO ZAGORI)
With so much to see in this area this is the chance to investigate more of the region. The Zagori villages are a network of 46 villages that were once linked by small bridges and tracks. Today the larger villages are liked by paved roads, but a bit of investigation will get you into the less populated areas, discovering breathtaking gorges and amazing architecture. Where a few years ago some of the villages were uninhabited, with the rise of the boutique hotels and shops there is a lot more to see and do. If you choose to do this tour in winter you can use Ioannina as a base for snow skiing. In the evening go back to your hotel and find dinner at a local eatery.

Day 6 (DRIVE & OVERNIGHT IN PELION)
Today is a day of driving and exploring the Mount Pelion. After having your breakfast and checking out you will follow the road back through Ioannina and Metsovo before turning off to for Volos. There is about 320 kilometres of picturesque driving to do today. On arrival at Volos we suggest you check out Mount Pelion and the network of mountain villages that are unique in architecture and rich in natural beauty. The Mount Pelion is one of the greenest parts of the mainland. It is also home to spectacular mountains and pristine beaches. It is also one of the few places in the world where you can be on top of a mountain and feel like you can touch the sea. After a day of exploring, check into your hotel, which can be any of a number of unique local guest tradional houses on Mount Pelion, after which, find some dinner in a local restaurant before retiring.

Day 7 (DRIVE TO ATHENS)
Today is your last chance to discover more of the Pelion Peninsula before making your way back to Athens. It is about 370 kilometres back to the capital and you can take the opportunity to visit some of the places you have seen one last time. On arrival back in Athens, drive to your inner city hotel and go and find some dinner. This is a chance to have one last dinner in the Plaka under the gaze of the Acropolis perched high on the hill.

Day 8 (DRIVE TO THE AIRPORT & FLIGHT BACK HOME)
As this is your final day, depending on the time of your departure you can possibly take in some last minute shopping or sightseeing, or just drive yourself to the airport and return you hire car and board your flight home.
