This four day/five night fly and drive package takes you to the mountains North of Athens to some of Greece's most sacred sites.
Day 1 (ATHENS ARRIVAL TRANSFER AND TOUR)
On your arrival in Athens you will be met by your English speaking transfer driver who will take you to the hotel of your choice in the centre of the city. Use this afternoon and evening to settle into Greece and Athens. Depending on what time you arrive, you can explore Athens on your own, taking in such sights as the Acropolis, the beacon like palace that crowns Athens, or wander the Plaka, where its winding streets have a myriad of shops and restaurants. If you arrive early in the day, you can choose to have us arrange an English speaking driver to take you to the sights in and around Athens. If you have the time we recommend the drive down to Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon. In the evening you can have dinner at any one of the traditional tavernas or arrange for us to let you take an Athens by Night Tour if you so wish.
Day 2 (CAR RENTAL AND DRIVE TO DELPHI)
After breakfast your hire car will be delivered to your hotel for you to start your three day drive into the heart of Greece. Your first destination is Delphi, a town approximately 180 kilometres to the North West of Athens. We will provide directions and GPS to ensure you do not get lost on your way up the National Road to Lamia and then Thebes. You can stop at the charming towns of Levardia and Arachova for refreshment and shopping. Arachova, based at the foot of Mount Parnassos has some wonderful tourist shopping and restaurants. It is on the road to the archaeological site of Delphi. We recommend you spend a few hours at the site, whether you choose to wander around by yourself or allow us to arrange a professional, English speaking guide to explain the mysteries, traditions and ruins that abound in this amazing site. The museum at the archaeological site is also well worth a visit. Once you have paid homage to the Oracle of Delphi, return to your car and drive into the town to your hotel. You will spend the evening in Delphi, where you will find a thriving restaurant and taverna scene.
Day 3 (DRIVE TO KALAMBAKA)
On waking in your hotel in Delphi, it is time to get up, have some breakfast and check out. You have a drive of approximately 225 kilometres to Kalambaka and the mountains of Metora. You will travel towards the twons of Lamia, Karditsa and Trikala before reaching your destination, taking in the wondrous views of Meteora, perched high in the breathtaking mountains at which Kalambaka is nestled at the base. Check into the hotel of your choice in Kalambaka and spend the evening in this thriving town, where you can find many traditional Greek restaurants. Maybe you can find a taverna which has traditional Greek music and ouzo for an authentic Greek night out.
Day 4 (DRIVE BACK TO ATHENS)
This is the day to have your breakfast early so you can make the most of your time at the monasteries of Meteora. There is no other place like this in the world, with the monasteries situated high in the cliff like mountains. There are six monasteries in all and you may choose to visit a few of them in you time in Meteora. After having some lunch it's time to make the 320 kilometre journey back to Athens. You will drive to the hotel of your choice, hand in your hire car and check in, The evening is yours to do as you please. This is a good chance to catch up on some shopping in the Plaka or take in a traditional meal and music in a local taverna with the Acropolis shining over all of your activities.
Day 5 (DEPARTURE AIRPORT TRANSFER)
Depending on the time of your flight home you may choose to do a bit of last minute sightseeing or shopping. Drive to the airport, drop off your vehicle to our representative, say goodbye to Greece and board your flight home.
