Day 1 Depart USA

You board your flight for the overnight flight to Thailand and its capital, Bangkok

Day 2 En Route

During your flight you will cross the International Date Line technically "losing" a day but you will regain it on your return flight.

Day 3 Welcome to Thailand

Arriving in Bangkok you will be met by our representative as you exit the plane. They will facilitate your expeditious move through customs and immigration and assist you with the retrieval of your luggage. Once in the arrivals hall you will be introduced to your personal guide and escorted out to your car where your driver is waiting. Arriving at your hotel, your guide will assist with check-in and coordinate the next day's agenda. You then are free to relax in your room with a delightful view over the Chao Phraya River. This evening enjoy a quiet dinner in the hotel and a good night's rest.

Day 4 A Leisurely Segue into Thai Life

Given your extended flight the previous day, we have left the morning open for a leisurely breakfast. We have also arranged for you to have a Thai massage to work all the kinks out and allow you to enjoy your first day of exploration. Late morning, your guide and driver will be waiting to take you to lunch at the delightful Supatra River House overlooking the Chao Phraya River. After lunch, your expert guide will take you "off the beaten track" as your first introduction to Bangkok. You will board a long tail boat for a ride along the Chao Phraya River before entering the quiet klongs (canals) of the residential area of Thonburi where you see how people have lived next to the water for centuries. You will visit a seventy year old Thai house converted into a small but fascinating Folk museum and also visit the Temple of Dawn. You then proceed on foot through Chinatown where you have chance to see (and visit if you choose) interesting shops, tea rooms, markets and temples. Emerging from Chinatown, your driver will be waiting to return you to the hotel. You have a chance to relax and freshen up before meeting your guide who will take you to "The Deck" where you will enjoy cocktails and dinner against the stunning backdrop of the Rattanakosin skyline. After dinner you can return to the hotel or take the opportunity to stroll along the flower market or the local night market along the banks of the river.

Day 5 A Local’s Sightseeing Tour of Bangkok

After breakfast you will meet your guide in the lobby but the driver has the day off since you will be seeing the sights using all varieties of public transportation for only in this way will you truly experience Bangkok. You first take a public boat to Tha Thien pier where you disembark to visit Wat Po, the home of the reclining Buddha. After a visit you continue to the Grand Palace. The Royal Grand Palace is the nation's landmark and the most revered royal monument and home to the Emerald Buddha. After a tour of the palace you have the choice of walking or taking a Tuk-Tuk which is a three wheeled covered vehicle powered by a motorcycle and carrying two passengers along with a driver. We recommend the Tuk-Tuk. You will cross the royal fields to Khao San Road which is the gathering spot for backpackers from around the globe. Continuing in your Tuk-Tuk you drive down Rachadamnoen which is the Thai Champs Elysees to the Sorndaeng Methavalai where you enjoy a delicious lunch with a 1950's backdrop. After lunch you board a bus boat for Jim Thompson's House Museum dedicated to the American who re-invented the Thai silk industry after WW II. After the visit you return to the hotel by boat. In the evening, your guide will meet you and take you to a hotel shuttle boat which will take you to a pier where you will board the Manohra Rice Barge. This barge has been converted into one of Bangkok's finest dining venues offering you a sumptuous five-course dinner as you cruise the Chao Phraya River enjoying the sights.

Day 6 Kanchanaburi, a Famous Bridge and the Elephants

In the morning your guide and driver will be waiting to take you out of the city. You will head west to Kanchanaburi province where you will spend the day exploring nature and history. Your first stop will be to The River Kwai and the bridge across it that inspired the famous movie. While some of the film was historically inaccurate, the facts regarding the many deaths of allied prisoners of war are not. You will walk on the bridge and visit and visit the cemetery where many of the prisoners rest with the grounds tended by local Buddhist monks. You will then head into the mountainous countryside for lunch overlooking the river. You next visit will be to the Taweechai Elephant Camp where you can experience bamboo rafting on the peaceful Kwai Yai River and an Elephant ride through the jungle. You return to the city where you have a chance to refresh and enjoy a fine dinner at one of your hotel's renowned restaurants.

Day 7 Cooking and Shopping in Bangkok

In the morning you will meet with a chef/instructor from the Blue Elephant Restaurant. He or she will take you to the local market and teach you how to select and buy ingredients for your private cooking lesson. Once the ingredients have been purchased you head for the restaurant to work on the preparation of the Thai meal. Later, your efforts are rewarded as you enjoy the meal in the restaurant itself sampling your own cooking as well as other Thai dishes. After lunch, your guide and driver will pick you up and are at your disposal for an afternoon of shopping. Be sure to let your guide know if you are interested in visiting some of Bangkok's smart new shopping centers or if you are looking for traditional handicrafts, furnishings, tailors, gems or other items. In the evening you will be taken to Suan Lum Night Bazaar, Bangkok's best and busiest night market where you enjoy an al fresco dinner at Joe Louis restaurant situated in the heart of the market.

Day 8 An Ancient Capital and a Leisurely Cruise

You have an early morning departure from the hotel as you drive north to the ancient city of Ayuthaya which in earlier times was the capital of old Siam. You will have a privately guided visit to three of the most important ruined temples before continuing to Bang Pa In to see the Summer Palace built by King Rama IV at a time of growing European influence in Thailand. After the tour you board a deluxe cruiser where you enjoy a superb lunch as you cruise in a leisurely manner to Bangkok arriving in the late afternoon. This evening you have a choice of several restaurants where you can enjoy a private dinner.

Day 9 Royal Art and Family Dining

After breakfast, your guide will take you to Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall which until recently was not available to the public. The building was built as a Parliament Building in 1907 and this impressive renaissance style building is different from many of Bangkok's more traditional buildings with gold and fresco domes enhanced by magnificent interior painting. The art on display reflects priceless Thai art treasures which are part of the Royal Family's private collection. After touring the building you will depart for lunch at the Naj Cuisine restaurant. Your afternoon is left open for last minute shopping but tonight you are in for a special treat. We have arranged for you to have dinner with a Thai family who will share a meal and their home with you. You will enjoy the experience.

Day 10 Return to USA

After breakfast, your guide will be waiting to take you to the airport to say goodbye and to turn you over to our representative who will assist you with check-in. Since you will "gain" the day previously lost, you will arrive back the same afternoon.
