Caribbean Culinary Tours: Jamaica Cooking Vacation and Tour
Jamaica is a third largest island of the Caribbean. The Island is rich in history, culture and traditions. Jamaica is one of the top holiday and vacation destinations in the world, The Island scrumptious cuisine awaits visitors as they flock to the island shores. We will be touring the Island of Jamaica and discover its unique Culinary repertoire.
The Island of Jamaica has Culinary influences from the Spanish, French, English, and the former African slaves brought over to work the Sugar plantation You will enjoy dishes such as fried fish with hard dough bread, ackee and saltfish, jerk chicken, pork, fish, river crayfish and shrimp calaloo.. Along with its food the Island has a pulse on its own when it comes to its music.
Reggae is the island music of the soul and has attracted global attention with the likes of Jamaican musician Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Jimmy Cliff to name a few Jamaica is also famous for its world renowned rum, liqueurs and blue mountain coffee. For centuries Jamaicans have considered their rum the gold standard, epitomizing the robust spirit for which the island is famous. The Island boast the Appleton and Myers brand rum, Sangster’s liqueur and the blue mountain coffee grown in the blue mountain range of hills along the eastern end of Jamaica.
Your Tour will consist:
Day One Free Airport pick- up and welcome Dinner Free Pick up at the airport and transfer to the Tryall Villa’s where you will be staying. After you have settled in we will meet for a cocktail and briefing of the tour. A welcome dinner will follow, with a multi course meal.
Day Two After breakfast Morning hands -on cooking class with our chef Freda at the Villa you will learn the basic of Jamaican cooking which include the study of the island spices, herbs ,and seasonings that make up the island culinary repertoire. We will later tour the local town and do some window shopping we will stop for lunch at one of the best local restaurant in town. Afternoon local tropical cocktail tasting with our local in housel bartender followed by preparing our seafood feast dinner together during our afternoon Seafood extravaganza class at the Villa.
Day Three Morning Yoga lesson on the beach, return to the villa for breakfast after relaxing we will meet for a cooking demonstration class where we will be jerking things up with our Jerk cooking class you will learn the art of preparing the Jamaican Jerk to include Chicken, Pork, Fish, This will include the use of a dry rub (seasoning) and a wet rub( seasoning). This will be followed by a lesson in using tropical fruits in sauces and salsas. After lunch. We will head for our day outing with a visit to Dunn’s River falls in the town of Ocho Rios. We will stop for a light dinner at before heading back to the villa.
Day Four After breakfast we will head for our country side excursions where we will explore the back country of Jamaica and learn about the island culture as we travel along the parishes of St Elizabeth and Portland. We will enjoy a culinary excursion of Portland the birth place of Jerk cuisine. We will travel away from the hustle and bustle of the busy tourist areas and journey into communities where you will get the chance to see how the natives live and go about their daily lives. We will visit local pottery, and arts and craft shops, along with road side farmers markets and other local and historic sites, on our way back we will stop for a swim and a lunch picnic on a nearby beach. Dinner on your own or a light dinner back at the villa .
Day Five Morning hands-on cooking class at the villa, Learn the art of making Jamaican Desserts and herb teas (Bush teas) with our local hotel pastry chef. We will later enjoy a luxurious Catamaran cruise along the coast of the island lunch and snorkeling equipment are provided. Afternoon excursions of the city town square afternoon free time for shopping, stock up on duty free shopping for French Perfumes, Local Rum, leather Goods, Jewelry, Early beach picnic dinner while enjoying the local Island sunset. Ladies be pampered at the spa with a relaxing massage and detox treatment. Men can enjoy golf on the villa 18 hole championship golf course.
Day Six Morning Cooking Class Learn the art of making Jamaican soups, and side dishes oxtail, pumpkin and fish soups, Rice and Peas, Rasta salad, Jamaican meat patties,ackee and salt fish, followed by lunch, Afternoon trip to the local Appleton estate Rum distillery, You will get the chance to observe the entire manufacturing process, seeing, tasting, and smelling at every stage along the way as the sugar is transformed into molasses and the then rum.. This will be followed by a celebration dinner prepared by Private Chef Freda and her assistants.
Day Seven Good bye breakfast and farewells depending on your schedule there is still time to do your last minute shopping, bus will transfer you to the airport.
