Description of Culinary Trip - The Flavors of Vesuvius
- Pompeii is considered as one of the most significant historic vestiges of Roman civilization and, like an open book, provides essential information about the art, customs and everyday life of the past. Following the devastating eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D., the city has re-emerged from centuries of darkness and layers of ash, bringing to light a fascinating picture of daily life.
- Departing from and returning to your hotel, this tour takes you back in time, starting with a visit to the archeological site at Pompeii. Once a thriving resort town populated by wealthy people, Pompeii today offers remains of restored temples, eateries and the preserved bodies of those who died trying to escape. This journey through the ancient city will help you imagine the daily routine of Pompeii and the panic felt by its inhabitants in the minutes before it was completely buried.
- Next stop will be La Cantina del Vesuvio Winery, located in the National Park of Vesuvius at the base of the volcano, an area well-known for its rich, volcanic soil that is perfect for growing grapes. Here you'll visit the vineyards and olive groves of the winery before tasting some of their outstanding wines. Wine is produced here in three classic versions: Lacryma Christi of the Vesuvius DOC red, rose' and white. A lunch of traditional dishes carefully prepared using genuine, local products will follow.
