Description of Culinary Tour - Amalfi Coast Tour: Flavors of History
- The Amalfi Coast is not only known for its seductive panoramas and intense blue sea, but also for the flavors and tastes of the local gastronomy. This Mediterranean pearl boasts a large range of typical specialties, created mostly from locally-grown products.
- Departing from and returning to your hotel, you'll start your tour with a short guided visit of the village of Ravello. One of the most elegant town on the Amalfi Coast, this place has inspired writers, artists and musicians, and has attracted numerous international celebrities. Perched high on the cliffs above Amalfi, Ravello is visited for its beautiful gardens and other important sites such as the Villa Rufolo, Villa Cimbrone and the splendid Romanesque Duomo.
- Your tour will continue with a visit to Amalfi and a tasting of limoncello at Antichi Sapori d'Amalfi. This family-run store offers homemade limoncello, produced with local lemons, as well as an array of other products. Your guide will then take you to the Amalfi Paper Mill and Museum where you can admire ancient methods of paper production that the locals learned from the Arabs. Lunch at Trattoria da Rispoli follows.
- After lunch, you'll go to Positano for a guided tour and a stop for coffee. This dreamy coastal town, etched upon the face of a rocky cliff, is known for the church of Santa Maria Assunta that contains a 13th century icon of the Black Madonna. According to local legend, this icon was stolen from Byzantium and transported by pirates across the Mediterranean.
