Oman shares borders with Saudi Arabia and Yemen and is split into two enclaves by the United Arab Emirates. The Musandam Peninsula is the northern enclave, with dramatic mountains spilling onto sandy beaches and aquamarine sea. The peninsula has earned the nickname "Norway of the Middle East" for its rugged mountains rising 6,500ft (2,000m) out of the water. Oman is a land where camels cross great stretches of desert, and you can explore sleepy fishing villages and a rich, traditional culture.
