Marbella, along with most of Spain’s southern region of Andalucía, was once under Arab occupation for eight hundred years. In 1485, Spain reclaimed the city but the Arabic flavor lingers in the city’s architecture. The castle of Marbella is a focus of the city’s Old Town district and a testament to the Moorish occupation hundreds of years ago. However, it is the dazzling seaside that has been capturing the attention of the rich and famous since the early 1940s.
Located between the mountains and the sea, Marbella is a paradise for weather. Summers are warm, winters are mild, and the days are filled with endless sunshine. Resorts, villas and hotels offer a wide variety of beachfront activities; snorkeling, swimming, scuba diving, horseback riding, golf or tennis, among others. Long considered a playground for royalty, Marbella knows no limit when it comes to entertainment.
