Ibiza Travel Guide

Quickly becoming Europe’s most illustrious summer getaway, this small Balearic Island is surrounded by the crystal clear Mediterranean Sea. Located fifty miles from the Spanish mainland, Ibiza’s history is decorated with mysterious legends of “spiritual magnetism” for over thousands of years. The ribbons of white sand, busy capital Ibiza Town and the infamous nightlife continue to attract people from around the world.

It is the third largest Balearic Island with 225 sq. miles (585 sq. km) of sandy beaches, hidden coves, cliffs dotted with whitewashed houses and, moving inland, olive trees scattered across rugged hilltops. Ibiza Town was founded by the Carthaginians in 654 B.C., making it one of the earliest towns in Europe. It was later conquered and used as a port by the Romans, then Arabs and eventually the Catalans who journeyed over from the Spanish mainland. At first, the Catalans largely neglected the island, leaving it open to prey for pirates. The islanders, in turn painted their seafront houses natural colors in order to blend into the natural terrain and avoid detection from the ships. Stone watchtowers still loom over the rocky cliffs as testament to the island’s history with pirates.

With its unrivaled nightlife, Ibiza’s legendary parties are located mostly in Ibiza Town, the capital on the southern shore and in Sant Antoni on the western shore. World famous nightclubs sponsor all-night parties with international DJs that keep you dancing until the ‘disco sunrise.’
