Hawaii Travel Guide

It’s a sparkling archipelago where the warmth of the islanders is matched only by the idyllic weather. Flip flops on your feet, a Mai Tai in your hand, and a hibiscus behind the ear; Aloha! from Hawaii. Of the hundreds of emerald beads making up the Hawaiian archipelago, the six main islands are: Big Island Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Lanai and Molokai. From the fresh plumeria fragrance to the sweet pineapple juice, Hawaii is a veritable luau for your senses. Blue skies, white beaches, green valleys, stunning (active!) volcanoes, cascading waterfalls, luscious rainforests and even deserts. Hawaii has it all.

Hawaii’s largest island, Big Island, is the most geographically diverse, with eleven of the thirteen global climatic zones. Emerald valleys hug the base of snow-capped Mauna Kea, with rainforests on one coast, deserts on the other. Thrill-seekers can find great adventures in this volcanic island, including the continuously erupting Kilauea volcano in Volcanoes National Park.

For stunning scenery that looks too good to be true, travelers explore the lush landscape of Kauai. Kauai’s coast is a photographer’s dream, from the golden shores of the Coconut Coast to the “Pacific Grand Canyon” of Waimea Canyon. The striking cliffs on the Napali Coast fall into the warm Pacific blue. This gorgeous paradise has fascinated filmmakers for years and is the scenery for the romantic escapades in South Pacific and the thrilling adventures in both Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jurassic Park.

It’s known as Hawaii’s “Most Enticing Island,” promising adventure, solitude and pure indulgence. Lanai is where the rich and famous flee for luxuriously soothing privacy. Swim with the dolphins and watch for whales in Hulopoe Bay; discover a boat washed ashore on Shipwreck Beach; explore the moon-like rock formations in Keahikawelo’s Garden of the Gods.

In Maui you can sail alongside humpback whales in the winter and swim with dolphins in the summer. It’s the second largest of the Hawaiian Islands, composed of two dormant volcanoes overlapping each other with a tropical valley in between. The Valley Island is also home to white sand beaches washing into serene, warm water.

Molokai is the island untouched by sprawling tourism and high rises. It is a taste of the old Hawaiian countryside and villages, where farmers outnumber tourists. Its northern sea cliffs are the tallest in the world and they descend into rolling plains that spill onto long powdery stretches of beach. Verdant flora tumbles across hidden inlets and blue lagoons. Molokai is a wild landscape with sunshine, sleepy villages and secret adventures.

Oahu is paradise for the pleasure seeker and is a mixture of natural and modern wonders. It is home to the state capital Honolulu, the “pleasure-leisure capital” Waikiki, the biggest surfing beach North Shore and the Pearl Harbor monuments from WWII. There are lush, green mountains, sun-kissed beaches, fields of golden pineapples, high end shopping, world class fine dining, vibrant nightlife, crystal clear bays and some of the best surfing conditions in the world. It’s also home to a little known television series, Lost.
