Catherwood Travels takes its name from Frederick Catherwood, the extraordinary 19th century artist whose drawings first made the world of the ancient Maya internationally famous. Accompanied by John Lloyd Stephens, Catherwood traveled extensively through the Yucatán peninsula and discovered Maya ruins and caves, described local traditions, and visited the region’s haciendas.
Catherwood Travels brings the experiences of those explorers into the 21st century. Follow in Stephens and Catherwood’s footsteps, with your archeologist guide, as you discover the Maya world. Venture into the underworld of caves and cenotes while meeting gifted artisans and the Yucatán’s friendly people.
