Belgium is quite possibly one of Europe’s best kept secrets. It has long been cast in the shadows of its boisterous neighbor to the north, The Netherlands and southerly neighboring powerhouses Germany and France. However, Belgium is not just a stop-over from England; this little country is full of charm and undiscovered treasures.
You can navigate through the winding cobbled streets by following the towering steeples of Gothic cathedrals in each red roofed town. These medieval cities are oozing with charm and of course, the world famous Belgian beers. Take a seat in one of the picturesque outdoor cafés and order a Duvel or Kasteel Bier, served in a specific glass used exclusively for that brand of beer.
Belgium’s specialties do not rest at the art of beer breweries (though they exceed expectations with over 300 brews to choose from). A trip to one of the seaside resorts is not complete without enjoying a steaming plate of mussels and frites. Sail through the magical canals in Bruges and be sure to stop at one of many boutique chocolate shops for some of the world’s richest chocolate delicacies.
